A Bloomfield construction subcontractor agreed to pay $236,000 in back wages after admitting 37 workers constructing McKinley Elementary School were underpaid and coerced not to report the illegal wages, the state Attorney General's Office said Monday. Full Story

Simper Fi , SimperFi,
you got that right and this is only the 1St Quarter , Bill Flores of Jaynes Corp will be going down with his buddy Paul Martinez . The can of worms is open and i personally am going fishing with those worms.
The Schools ,county and cities all turn a blind Eye to this crap but they too will learn a lesson about State procurement code. Just keep your eyes and ears open there is more to come !!!
Sounds like someting out of Howard Mocks book. Jaynes really needs to get busted for the way it treats it's subs, sells bids, etc. Way to much crap in their closets. You would think the local subs would get enough of it and turn Jaynes in.

The local group of contractors (including other trades, not just stucco) you are referencing is only interested in addressing the "unlicensed contracting" that is going on in this area. We have been speaking with city, county and state agencies, also building industry groups and companies to implement better enforcement of the existing codes and laws. We have had a good response from all these entities and will continue to pursue enforcement and educate the public. Unlicensed contracting IS illegal in New Mexico. If you would like to educate yourself on this matter go to the state Construction Industries Division website. You could also contact John Tapia at this website, chief investigator for the unlicensed contracting bureau.

Karma , enough said, Kika is uninformed and I take offense. Paul M. and Bill Flores are related by Marraige and they are Bid shopping Crooks .
I did not say that Paul "Threatened" the employees the Assitantant Attorney General , Melanie Carver did.
Kika Read the article if you are literate.
I will say it to Paul and Bill soon enough just you wait. Karma has it right!

Wow no wonder why our economy is in the financial crisis it is when companies are forced to pay drywall hangers 18 bucks an hour! Teachers with Masters degrees are barely making these wages. Its really too bad the daily times and the state of New Mexico has to smear the name of a upstanding local small business accross the headlines, in recent years this company took huge losses in the Navajo prep school project but this was never reported

It's really too bad that the State of New Mexico enforced provisions that this company knowingly broke.*sarcasm off* Daily Times is reporting it...if accurate, and we must assume it is because neither company is defending themselves or trying to set the record straight with anyone who has picked this up.

Evidence from DT
1. The contractor AGREED to pay. This tells me the NM attourney generals office either one...threatened to revoke their license...or two threatened to bring federal criminal charges.
2. Workers were interviewed AND were then threatened with loss of the ability to earn a living in their chosen profession in this area by said *good guys* you are defending.
3. The *good guys* cooked their books. In the article the AAG stated that the payroll records they sent to the authorities showed everything was in order...aka workers were being paid the 18 dollar wage. There is another person who cooked the books and screwed citizens I'm thinking of..ya know, that scum Bernie Madoff. Granted $30 billion is quite a bit more than $200 thousand but both cooked the books and actively thwarted laws.

Point being....if this story is right and the AAG isn't lying these guys deserve the penalty (and more), they ARE scum, and I am completely justified in never wanting them to work in another public building again.

As to them losing money on Navajo Prep...they should have bid higher. They had the same chance as all of the others they undercut when they bid.

They should take this as a sign that construction isn't really their line of work. Now go take that back to your friend, relative, or spouse and tell them to shove it!

Eveyone feeding off these negative comments without knowing the real facts being for whatever reason may your conscience be your guide

PUH-LEASE!!

The *facts* are in the article. Can you read? The *facts* came straight out of the aag's mouth. That company has had two days to get back with a reporter and have chosen not to. If it walks like a duck and smells like a duck...chances are, it is. Daily Times would certainly have run a retraction by now for legal reasons if they got them wrong.

Until I see *facts* from the other side proving our AAG wrong, I'm sorry I don't buy it. Something tells me we won't ever get that information.

You are making this piece of crap out to be a victim when the only people victimized here were the workers he screwed over and threatened.

So what you're saying is that it is ok to hire illegals and underpay and threaten them as long as you are a 'licensed' contractor ??? What a crock. You are probably just as crooked as MAD and Jaynes. Again, you all probably need to look at yourselves before going after others. Oh and I don't need to educate myself on anything. I'm sure I know much more about this than you.

Sounds to me like i'm out of place in this contractors blog trying to hang eachother out to dry. As far as the Navajo prep project goes the company dd the work and never recieved their compensation. As far as Jaynes and MAD being connected I think every contractor has taken there bullying from Jaynes including MAD, but if you want to work in the four corners you better take it, or be out of work spending your time blogging on Daily times.

so white boy are you saying that trying to point out corruption is bad and we should just deal. like oh well it stinks but i'll just carry on . No comment on the wage issue Huh. Unions have bankrupted the auto industry and i will say that they are hurting our whole economy . Teachers should be paid more than laborers but you can thank the Unions.

1. Paul is a good guy
2. He is playing by the rules that most do in this area.
3. He KNOWs what he is doing is wrong and illegal.
4. Don't blame his family, most of them that work for him would love to make $18 hour, he does the same thing to them.
I really hope Paul can keep his bueness thru this he because doesnt have some vast fortune to pay this kind of fine with. I also hope he has leard his lesson, which i doubt because he will have to come up with the money from somewhere. But i also know that if he plays by all the rules he will never win a contact bid again. MAD is part of the reason why Jaynes can low bid for jobs, and Jaynes will find someone else next time ready to break the law to win the bid. The whole setup is crooked and needs to be fixed. I don't know what the solution is but at present if you don't break the law somewhere you cant compete with those that do.
Good Luck to you and yours Paul.
