"who should be watching the children?" Maybe you should ask, "where are the parents?"
The parents should be held responsible, but isn't that the problem after all, no one is held to task, and society only offers excuses instead of demanding conformity.

I'm glad this is a trend. The gene-pool must be cleansed in Reading. Now all we need is a way to get rid of the stupid adults.

Well, you are not in Reading, so thank God one of the "stupid adults" is gone! Cleansing a gene pool, you start, you go first.

these parents let their children play on the roof and then act like they had no idea it was dangerous or they claim to have asked their little johnny to stay off the roof without ever checking to see if he listened and no consequenses for their not listening. we treat dogs better

I know I wouldn't let my dog play on the roof. I just love the little bugger to much.

Neither of these accidents should ever have happened. Roofs are not playgrounds.(or babysitters for that matter!) Shouldn't child endangerment charges be filed? Neglect? A poor little 22 month old boy dies from falling off of a roof-(that's one too many deaths!) wouldn't you think that would scare parents? This kid's mother didn't show up at the scene until after the cops/firemen had arrived. Unreal...unreal...unreal.

I am coming to you all as a parent that does live in Reading and I have 4 kids of my own and I say no matter how old your kids are you should no where they are at all times....In my opinion I think these 2 cases should be investigated what were the parents doing while these kids were on the roof's...I as I said have 4 kids and I always know where they are and what they are doing....

This boy and his friends are encouraged by neighborhood adults to climb on these rooftops. They have also been seen throwing rocks, lighting fires, and harrassing people. A police officer responding to a complaint about these kids on a previous incident said " you should expect this to happen!"

How can anyone win in this village with that sort of mentality??????

It's typical of the thought proscess today. Some one else is responsible for my child. I remember years ago some one saying " IT takes a village to raise a child not just 2 parents" well the vilalge has lost it's idiot I think. Parents need to be responsible for their children. As far as cleaning the shallow end of the gene pool, it's not only the urban jungle that needs a cleaning. There are plenty of so called intellegent adults in the burbs that would need to go away too. So I don't think that would be the total solution. As far as the mother showing up aftet the cops did, well that could be explained in a number of ways. she was either selling crack on a corner or maybe even trying to get knocked up again to spit out another little urban monkey to collect some more well fare. This is a prime example of why I moved out of a city towards the burbs. I think we al lneed to get back to our roots like it was back when we were kids & take some responsiblity for our own actions & not blame other people for our stupidity.

Letting kids play on roof tops? Thats dangerous itself! I wonder what the temperature was on the roof on a 92 degree day.Sorry for bringing this up but ill bet ya the parents are black. They were probably siting in their house rolling blunts to sell while their kids are on the roof. Why would they put their kids in danger like that. These are our future gang members! Then again they can alway have more kids to bring in more money from the government.

Reading, PA is named after Reading, England

Just saw on the Reading Eagle's website that the police consider this an 'accident' and are closing the case. Apparently it's OK to NOT know where your kids are, what they're doing, etc. Guess that means it's OK to let your kids play on the roofs again. May as well let them play in traffic too.
