Once the facts are presented, I'm sure he'll be found guilty, sentenced to death, then languish in the state prison system for 20-30 years due to appeals & such. All the while, we're paying for it.

I'm all for him pleading guilty w/ no chance at parole. This guy would die in the general prison population pretty quick. The heck w/ isolation/solitary confinement.

My thoughts and prayers are with Officers Wertz family through this trial for this am sure this will be a horrible ordeal for them. With a Berks County Judge residing over this case opens more reasons he will have to appeal its a shame our tax dollars will have to represent this scum and pay for him to live out the rest of his life. When it should be going to the widow and her family.

I get that this scum is entitled to have an attorney/trial, etc. I also understand it's the attorney's job to give him the best representation. However, I can't stand that this defense is going to be self defense-he didn't realize he was shooting at, and shot a cop. Let me guess...had he known, he wouldn't have done it? I hate that Officer Wertz's family is going to have to relive this. I wish the best for them.

Whats difference does it make if he didn't know scott Wertz was a cop? He still shot at someone and killed them. What would his defense be if scott Wertz hadn't been a cop? This guys had all sorts of trouble with the law since he was young, he needs to be put away forever. Im so sorry the Wertz family has to go through this and relive this pain again.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wertz family during this time. I can not even begin to imagine what you are going through at this time having to re-live the horrible accident that happened. I know you live with it everyday but I am sure that it is harder when you have to hear the excuses from the scum.

All I gotta say is I hope the Prosecution dont try and lie about the lighting on that block when that happen. Because there were no street lights within 20 feet south of the scene and no lights north of he scene which streches all the way to the getty mart not to mention all the trees. Because he didnt know he was a cop. he was trying to change his life but had murderers tryin to kill him had he known it was an officer he would of turned himself in. See the prosecution made an effort to light up most of the block but i have video showing that there was no lightin on the block from a week after the shotting. He aint getting the death penalty.

HE DIDN'T AGREE WITH CERTAIN CHARGES!!!!!There goes more of our tax dollars. When you kill someone and your record of assaulting Reading police officers is not allowed in court?!?!?!?What is wrong with this picture???I don't know why these laws were ever passed, but it seems the victims will forever be victims. God bless this officers' family during the trial. They're going to be hurt all over again. Where is the justice?

-In response to HIS COUSIN, why does it matter if Scott was a Police Officer or an average Citizen. Police Officer or Citizen, he was a Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Friend, and something most people like yourself and Cletus probably were not. He was employed and doing his part to help people in both Reading as an Officer and his own community as a little league coach. How many people have you helped?
-OK, you said that if Cletus knew the person he shot was a Police Officer, he would have turned himself in. Well if this is true then while he was in the same block as City Hall, he should of used his time more wisely and turned himself in instead of hanging out on the Getty lot with a stolen gun stuck in his pants. So save your petty video tape and post it on you tube for people who really care.. There already is surveillance in that area because CITY HALL IS located on the same block your idiot cousin decided to defend himself.. I Lived in Reading for 29 years and Knew Scott ALL of those years.I will join the fight for Mr.Rivera to get the EVERYTHING pentially they can think of just to get him off of the streets for GOOD!
