good teachers deserve good wages. Teaching solely to prepare the students for the state tests at the end of the year does not constitute a good teacher.

not being involved in education may be why Pattycake harbors a GIANT misconception, even if all schools taught the TEST, the TEST is ONLY math and reading, so that's 2 classes a day, so now that you're informed, you're forgiven

Speaking as a recent graduate Saltsburg does focus entirely to much time on the PSSA test. Though we have some of the best scores it has not helped one bit once college begins. They are not teaching the skills needed to succeed in college and real life but instead focusing on one test. I cannot blame them for this with the scores reflecting on the school and the teachers being told it is a priority but something needs done to prepare students for college and life, not for getting great scores in these tests.

Identify myself? And how will this help you in any way? Why exactly do you need to know who I am to prove what I said? This started with Bush pusing through the no child left behind and it has just escalated from there. You are correct its the government's problem and it is not working.

I agree.. What would identifying his/her self prove. You should be concerned that this person is telling you that they recently graduated from high school and was not prepared for college. You should be asking why they feel this way? Were there certain classes not offered, not advanced, not taught properly, etc. Learn from somebody admitting this and take it to the school board. If the teachers don't like it - to bad.. they can either improve their teaching skills or move to a different school.'Recent Graduate'- You should consider going to a school board meeting, or at least sending a letter to the administrators with you thoughts. Hopefully it would help the current students so they are not faced with the same problems.

If you believe the test scores are a joke you will change your mind in 2014 when students from schools that don't meet the standards can attend the school of their choice, including private schools.

I read all about the ugly school board meetings when the new school was being built. I remember many people saying the kids need more than buildings. You can have expensive buildings, and then have no money to buy books, pay teachers, etc. Well people have paid enough tax money and the school board chose the buildings so Noooo... money left for teachers and education. Oh and lets not forget the running track. I would rather have my money spent to educate the kids, and lets quit spoiling them with the things the parents want!!!(a track and trophy case)

Maybe if you studied and worked a little harder in college you would stop blaming your failure on your high school. All you kid's thought high school was a social event anyway. So even if the teacher was paid more it wouldn't help whinny little brats learn any better. So stop and do your homework and get a Kleenex.
