I understand the sponsor for this group is Mr Lloyd who will be teaching in 6th grade this year.

Well i wouldnt be suprised Mr.Lloyd has tried to change the views of students weather it be evolution or homosexuality or just being a child point blank but i believe if he does start a GAY club he is setting a very poor example for Union County Schools (as if our super. hasnt already done enough)and our community

I think that this is a step forward at the high school. I would just like to say thanks to Mr. Lloyd, if he is the faculty adviser, for encouraging the youth to be who they truly are and not be ashamed of it. Hopefully it will open the eyes of all the blind people living in Blairsville.

Sexual orenitation has no business in the school system. They have no problems keeping my Bible out, but they allow a gay club???? What if we started a straight club? How many or the discriminations ABC's would come out then?

I don't think if I were gay or straight I would want that silly Lloyd man associating with my children if they were in school. Union County did a sorry day's work when he got hired.

I don't know Mr. Lloyd, or Mr. Hand or Mr. Slave either for that matter ... but its wrong to expose kids to this sort of social issue before they've completed adolesence - which in some cases around here is about age 45.

It is my understanding the school did not want this but as many of you recall in White County a few years back they went through the same thing and it cost them thousands of dollars and they still lost or school cannot afford to go through such a costly ordeal. I agree with Betsy and I dont feel we need anything of a sexual nature at our schools not because I am judging but simply because that is not the place for it.

The gay club will fall flat on its feet if they have the Lloyd man as a sponsor. In fact, the potential club members will run away in horror. They will not want to be associated with the most uncool person ever. So, don't fret if he is the sponsor. The gay club will not be a reality; those kids will run as far as they can to get away.

FYI

I asked around about this and found out there is not a gay club at HS. One girl did request the club but after talking to the people in charge, a decision was made that her request was actually to have a club that educated the students on tolerance. I know the administration spoke with local preachers and explained what their plan was and asked for their support. I respect that they went to the churches and did this. I think several preachers have been in contact with the school and is willing to help with the new club. My daughter says there are lots of students who don't tolerate different people, this may include gays, nerds, hispanics, outsiders, rednecks, mentally handicapped, etc. I just hope this Mr. Lloyd is prepared to handle such issues and help if the kids are being bullied or picked on. Is he qualified to counsel students? By the way, the school is teaching bible history, new class, my daughter is taking it.

I can assure that Mr. Lloyd is not prepared to deal with anything. He is one of those persons who thinks he can do anything and do it better. He is the type of teacher your children come home complaining about because he tries to be so cool. I believe if there is a club for gays or for tolerance then there should be one for bigots, skinheads, and anyother racist/hate group. i have not problems with either; I go my way and they go theirs. What I do have trouble with is it being put in my face. I do not impose any of my sexual preferences on any one, and I am not shouting it from the rooftops.

Lord have mercy on Union County. I heard about this "club" and understand that they are havin it, but are callin it something else to try and keep everybody happy. Well, it ain't keepin me happy...no sirree! I have lived my entire "LONG" life right here in Union County and the likes of this is unbearable for me and my family. I heard that Lloyd boy was a trouble maker and that his own kid was the one wanting this club so they could join up. Oh me, oh my, my poor sweet grannie is probably turning over in her grave.

From what I understand we are having a Gay club at the high school. Unfortunately, we do not have a choice. If this went to court, we would be in front of the same judge that White County faced and we would loose. I think the board has asked a teacher at the high school to oversee the club "not Mr Lloyd" and make sure it is handled properly. This teacher is only doing this because they were asked and did not seek this position out. I do not support this club in any way, however, I think the school has taken the responsible approach by "watching" out who controls this club. I commend the teacher willing to look out for our school system even when it was not a desired position to be in. And I commend the board for not wasting countless tax dollars on a legal battle that can not be won. Let's pray that after a few weeks and no one attends - the club will dissolve on its own!!

why is it that students even have to learn about "tolerance" for gay ppl?? why are they tryin to teach children at a very impressionable age, that being gay is "ok" and "normal"... its not normal!! even if youre not from a christian background, how could you argue that being gay is not the way nature intended up to be?
