I'm not a native Floridian.I grew up in NH. I'm here in Florida because I have to be for now which is another story but there are some really beautiful things in Florida and I know some really amazing people. I've been vacationing in Blairsville for a little while now. I like the close proximity to Florida, I love the mountains, the weather, the charm, the wildlife, the hiking trails, and the people I have met. I have friends there. My son wants to move there, he loves it so much.I told him now was not a good time and I guess it's a good thing I did because apparently, we are hated there. Why is that? I stumbled across this forum researching some stuff for my next trip and am now very disillusioned about a place I once thought of as pretty close to heaven on earth. Blairsville has suddenly lost some of its charm. I think most people in Blairsville would like me if they knew me. I respect your town. Why do so many hate and put me down, when they don't even know me? The last time I came across hatred like this, I was working at a Head Start with a mostly black population and the parents of the children hated me because I was white. Feels like racism. Anyone want to explain, in plain English, the hatred toward Floridians like myslef who have come to love Blairsville?

I can answer your question very quickly and undoubtly with a proper diagnosis. They suffer from an anti-social disorder. This is a mental condition. Mr.Google will give you all the symptons.Gen. Sherman

They don't hate you. I am from Ft Lauderdale, owned a home in Blairsville for seven years. I can say I and my family love everything about Blairsville. Most people on this forum are having fun by saying ugly comments. It has become a form of entertainment. Yes this God's country.

I'll have to spend more time talking to people who have actually lived there. I know some people from Florida who moved to Blairsville to live near friends of ours who live there. Maybe I will see what their experience has been.

I was thinking she said "god's country" in response to my comment about it being close to heaven on earth. Whatever you believe, you can't help but feel closer to a creator or feel spirit move you when you are in such a beautiful setting. That's why I asked the original question in this thread. Why ruin the beauty with all the hatred? I didn't intend for the question to be rhetorical. My guess is that the people on here who hate Floridians just don't like anything different than themselves???? And here I am loving Blairsville because I DO like to experience asll the differences in the world. Guess I won't know unless any of them give me a serious answer.

Zephyr is a mild wind thus Zephyrhills. If you have ever been there you would know that because there are hills north of town. They use to be covered in orange groves now it is residential and commercial. It's screwed up just like most of Florida has become over the past 50 or 60 years. If you believe the crap you see on this forum than you probably believe everything you read in the newspapers. This forum does not represent the people of Blairsville. If you are courteous and friendly to them it will be returned back to you. Most of the people in Blairsville are great southern folks who are naturally very friendly. Even Slo once you get to know him.

If I am thinking of owning a home in Blairsville, I would like to know what kind of people my children will be around. My visits to Blairsville have not introduced me to anyone who dislikes Floridians. Yeah, Slo. I bet he's real friendly. Just after he shoots my car, as he said :)

I disagree with your post entirely. It is obvious you don't believe in anything but yourself and have no love for anyone else or even Blairsville and its beautiful land. The residents of Blairsville and surrounding areas may be deluded in your opinion but you are a long winded blowhard with nothing to do but run others down.

If you move to Blairsville and leave Florida behind you, you will fit in. It is the people who move in and then criticize the life style, the people, and want to change it to the way it was back in Florida or way up North that will get in trouble with the locals. Nobody wants to hear how you done things where you came from. With children, you are probably much younger not like many of the older generation who cannot adapt well. I hope you decide to give it a try and come to the real South rather than Florida. I am sure you will like the people, the way of life, the great climate and the beautiful mountains on a full time basis.

Although I think it is natural for people to talk about what things were like where they were from. Where a person is from is just "In" them forever I believe. I grew up in NH and I do love Florida for many reasons, but I sure do miss real fall and the the way we celebrated fall and the fall holidays. One reason why I can't wait to get to Blairsville next weekend:) And I'm not afraid of fitting in somewhere. If I willingly choose to move somewhere (not forced because of a job relocation etc) I will choose a place where I know I can be happy, just the way it is. Hence, the question today. I was starting to think Blairsville could be that place for me, wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong.:) Renting a place on Nottely River next weekend. Can't wait to get there. Although, maybe I should have bought a plane ticket instead of driving. That damn license plate is going to give me away ;)

Plenty of flea markets, craft fairs, yard sales, couple of yearly parades and a number of festivals throughout the year. Probable not much in the way of shopping as where you come from. As far as living year round the first winter on you might be the deciding factor but being from N.H. that shouldn't be a problem. The biggest activity in the county are the churchs, rec sports, and the schools; and the things mentioned above.
