i call bullshit... media prop to get the public up in arms about prescription drugs. i guess all the kilos of coke, meth & heroin that are smuggled into the country just sit in a warehouse somewhere with no one wanting to use it.

they all want prescription drugs now... please.

right? i mean seriously, how many times do you hear of people dying or in excruciating pain and they are denied of the very medications that would help them or ease their pain a bit. i had a friend with cancer that had trouble getting decent amounts of medication to help her, CANCER for fµks sake! only towards the end when she was in hospice was she given a decent amount of medications to help ease the pain. this drug war is a complete joke and it irritates me that my tax dollars continue to fund this.

Yet i can probably drive 20 minutes towards downtown and people are standing on every corner, i would bent my savings they don't have pockets full of MS Contin, hydrocone, and Fent patches. but prescription drugs are leading the nation in illegal drug use. what a joke.

i am in no way advocating the use of illegal substances or the abuse of prescription medication, but again, complete joke what big brother has done and continues to do.

I dont know ceiling... in a lot of small towns you see more drug stores than drug dealers. Go to any city and ask around about doctors, you'll find out which one will write scripts freely and which ones dont.

People dont stand on the corner selling pain pills because someone else already has all the corners. Same reason people dont stand on the corner selling beer. And many people get scripts cheap on their insurance and resale them for big bucks.

Difference is most people that use prescription drugs think they are better than common crackheads simply because they know a doctor that will write them a script.

Then why did my friend in Ohio have to live the last year or so of her life in wretched pain? not only until she was in hospice did she get any pain relief. if the docs up there think motrin 800 is going to ease cancer pain they are either complete idiots or scared of big brother. either way it is a shame.

i agree there are some shady doctors out there (and there always will be), but the only epidemic i see is way to many chronic pain patients or people on their last leg of life being under treated because big brother has tormented and scared most docs into not writing the proper scripts for these people - to get the pain relief they deserve. the DE@ was formed to combat illicit SCH I drugs, not pharmaceuticals. last time i checked, my doc knew more about medication than some politician or cop.

there will always be abusers. to be honest, i would rather see some people get one over on the system than 10 live out the last year or so of their life in horrid pain. The war on drugs is a joke, pour that money into educating our youth and i think we would see a drastic change. until then, we can keep tossing people in jail on our tax dollars and let the DE@ punish doctors that are caring and brave enough to help people out.

just my opinion folks

people are abusing "legal" drugs because they dont want to get caught up in this nations failed war on "illegal" drugs that has done more damage to users and familys than the drugs themselves. these people need help not jail time.

i dont think we would have the problem with perscription drugs if it wasnt for the news media making such a big deal outa it. the more they write about it and make it to be a bigger deal than it was, the fewer people would know about it and want to try it to see what the hype was all about. the less people know about something, the less inclined they are to find out about it. just a thought i had. not really saying one way or the other but it is a shame that people in pain have to suffer from others stupidity. unfortunately, ive been on both sides of the fence. once was an abuser, now have to have pescription pain meds for chronic knee pain due to an injury. im on the level but i still get looked at by some docs as an addict. which i am, just not a practicing one.
i agree with kevin b. addicts shouldnt be jailed, unless they comitted a violent crime, they should be put into treatment. they go into jail an addict and come out a learned addict/criminal. jail does more damage to an addict than good. of all the tens of thousand of dollars it takes to house an addict in prison, take half of that and give the addict treatment. unless a violent crime was comitted of course.
this thread is a good topic. hope it doesnt get ruined by scammers. post ya later.

I know a hundred pill heads, I dont know a single person that uses heroin. Now you tell me which one gets abused more. And people smoking crack are at home hiding with the blinds closed...these people on pills are out driving around in cars like a bunch of drunk drivers. Maybe driving past my wife and kids on the highway all pilled up and with their head nodding.

My dad started taking pain pills when he hurt his shoulder at work. He finally took one too many a few years ago and stopped his heart. Now my children dont have a grandfather because some piece of garbage doctor would write a script to anyone for the cost of an office visit.

The article may be right. A younger guy i use to work with told me recently about a 19 year old girl that smokes Oxy's and said it's the big rage with young people in her town. I worked with another guy who was 21 and was caught up for years he told me. And this was 3 years ago. Kids have been raiding their parents medicine cabinets and some are getting them off the street at an alarming rate the past few years. My opinion is that the article is valid.

Of course they are ;) It's the damn economy. Instead of Americans being upset at migrant workers for taking jobs, they're pissed that Columbians are hogging up all the warehouse space hehe.

Only possible exception here may be marijuana. I would say it's probably a toss-up there, both are very common especially among teenagers.

ceiling get over it. stop trying to act like YOUR bad habit is any better than the crackhead down the street. What are you taking and how many a day buddy? Huh?

awe, did i hit a nerve? what is it to you what i am prescribed? how about asking why i take oxycodone instead of spouting "how many a day"?

it has been many many years since i graduated from college, so i work to support my family. sorry that i don't hang around with many drug dealers or "kids strung out on drugs" to see this "epidemic".

i still think alcohol, and illicit drugs are abused a lot more than pharmaceuticals.

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Libra

Happy New Year, Libra!. How's that poor old body feeling this morning?! If you're having a gathering, include casual acquaintances or newcomers as if they were one of the family. You're a real social animal and you know how to put people at their ease. This is a wonderful talent: not only do you have a network of friends and social contacts, as well as business ones, but you have the ability to bring others together. Perhaps you should start a dating agency this year!
