I have never been questioned by a cop, but I have
had people pull up behind me, when I am parked
in a disabled space, and have asked me if I am
disabled. By the way, I am 45 and I guess so beautiful I dont look disabled.lol By the way, I
have kidney failure, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis,
mctd, etc.,etc.,etc...

I have the Disable Veteran license plate on my vehicle and it does not display the wheelchair and I have people to tell me that I am parking in a handicap area. I have been requested to remove my vehicle from the handicap parking by the person who has a mirror placard so they could take that spot. I have a friend that has a disabled license plate on his motorcycle and we have been questioned about it several times. I agree that it is confusing about who can and cannot park in the handicap parking. The problem could be less confusing if the states would place information about handicap parking on both radio and television.

I think the simplest solution is to mark any vehicle primarily driven by someone who is handicapped or disabled with a PERMANENT disabled license plate, and get rid of the part time, disabled for convenience mirror tags. Those are too easily abused anyway. A child, or grandchild of someone who has one can take them and park in any handicapped parking space and then walk inside just fine. If someone is disabled, they're disabled all the time, not just when it's convenient to put a tag on the mirror.

I'm 130% combat service connected. The whole bit: rated total and permanent, priority group 1, blah blah. I had an officer of the law ask me once in the last 17 years (that's how long I've used Disabled vet tags.).
I asked him to step a little closer. He did. I raised my shirt high enough for him to see the scars I have on my chest and gut. Then I pulled out the waist of the slacks I was wearing so he could see the ostomy pouch.(When someone says I'm full of crap I tell him I can't be full,..,. see?)
That took care of it and probably changed his point of view.
Heck, I hadn't even gotton to the scar running the full length of my leg, from the ankle pin to upper thigh. Then there's the plate in my neck. And the cluster headaches and the spinal cord seizures...
But I LOOK fine! You just never know.

I think it is imperative that people understand that disabled veterans with "DV" plates are permited to park in spaces designated for the disabled. The following information is quoted from the Texas Department of Transportation: PARKING PRIVILEGES for Veterans with Disabilities.
Vehicles displaying disabled plates, disabled veteran plates or permits are the only vehicles allowed to park in spaces clearly marked for the disabled. In some parking lots, the disabled spaces are colored red and others are marked in the traditional blue color. People who have a blue disabled parking permit or disabled veteran license plates can park in either the red or blue spaces. Those with a red disabled permit are only to park in the red spaces. If the parking lot ONLY has blue-colored spaces, then it is permissible for those with red permits to park in those spaces.(Information provided by the Texas Department of Transportation.) Can't imagine how this can be confusing. It (the rule) does not stipulate that you must have someting else in addition to your plate.

and did you know this....

Owners of vehicles displaying Disabled Veteran,
Congressional Medal of Honor, Former Prisoner of
War, Pearl Harbor Survivor, Purple Heart Recipient,
Legion of Valor (Air Force Cross, Distinguished Service
Cross, Army Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross
or Medal of Honor) or Legion of Merit License Plates
are exempt from the payment of parking fees, including
a fee collected through a parking meter, charged by
a governmental authority other than a branch of the
federal government. These vehicles are only exempt
from the parking fees if they are being operated by or
for the transportation of the person who registered the
vehicle with the above mentioned license plates.
As stated in Attorney General’s Opinion No. H-1291,
vehicles displaying Disabled Veteran License Plates
must not be parked at meters longer than the maximum
indicated time on the meters if there is a restriction
against parking at a meter in excess of that time.
However, this restriction does not apply if the vehicle
also displays a Disabled Parking Placard.

I have a question, Have a COP ever questioned your Disability? I am a younger veteran and I passed by a cop and the MESQUITE movie theater and I parked there and hung my placard. The cop flashed his lights on me and asked who in this car is Disable. I told him that I was. He then asked for my Driver's Liscense and flashed the light in my car to compare the license with the placard. He then asked me "WHAT IS MY DISABILITY"...I told him that I was a Disabled Vet who was injured while serving. It's a shame that some people use their power to harass innocent people who served their country but, just curious to see if anyone else encountered the same experience.
It happens all the time to me! I become rude,it just pisses me off to no end, I tell them it not any of there business. Ask them about there last doctor checkup, and let them know they are driven up health care cost with the bad food they eat

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Libra

Remember that life isn't all fun and games: handle your responsibilities first, then plan how to have a good time. Your impulses, once you yield to them, will have a tendency to lead you further and further from where you need to be. Make sure you lock the door behind you before disappearing; when you're in this kind of mischievous mood, you probably won't want anyone else to know where you're going.
