Sounds like someone had a bug up their butt, and got the city to go along with their whining. Volunteer firefighters risk their lives, at little cost to the residents and paltry compensation for the many hours they work...they do it because they love it. What a shoddy way to treat them.

I hope this whiner's house catches on fire...I hope there are 'mechanical issues' with the equipment.

Stupid. The fire truck was still in the city. The city council should resign due to their own stupidity.

I think they article should have included the names of the idiots on the "personnel committee" who for wahtever reason saw this as a big enough deal to disparage the hard work of volunteers.

The guy wasn;t using the truck to pressure wash his driveway. BFD.

I don't see a problem with what the chief had done.I've lost count on all the times I've seen fire trucks and rescue units at the loco grocery stores. So if they want to use the truck in a couple of wedding photos so what.Seems to me there taking pride in there jobs and there equipment.I'm quite sure when it comes time to answer that call for them to come save our @sses they'll be there, wedding or not. It's not every day that you'll find somebody that will walk into a burning building to save you and me.And these guys are true heros.I agree with Incredible70,I hope there house burns to the ground with them in it.But I'm sure if that happens they'll be there to put out the fire and save there worthless @sses.
So go ahead firemen take your wedding photos I'm sure you've earned it.

There is a chain of command in every organization.
He asked if he could use the truck and was told no.
I feel the punishment fits. We all have a boss, look at what would happen to YOU if you did exactly what your boss told you not to do.

It is obvious folks. The fire chief wanted to marry the bride. Revenge is sweet.

He should have been given permission in the first place, ridiculous that it even went this far. Our firemen do a great service for all of us and this was such a small request. Hope the pictures turned out great!

Totally stupid.......These citiots are what they make of it.Have no meaning to society so they smooze to be on the town board or city council, what a shame...These brave men and women volunteer more in a week then most people work a full time job, that is one small perk to being a volunteer firefighter. Most departments will come to your house to do chimney inspections, fill your swimming pool all for little to no cost at all. It's called supprting the community.Get your head in the game Windom.Nobody complains when the trucks go to another town for a parade! What a joke, you council people should feel really proud.Nuff said.NEVER QUESTION WHY A FIREFIGHTER IS A FIREFIGHTER!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Incredible 70...sounds like someone in the council just doesn't like the Fire Chief. I've seen firetrucks at countless parades, and other social events. What was the big deal about using the truck for a wedding photo? It is not like the truck wouldn't have been available if there had been a fire call. The wedding party was probably alot of firemen, too. I'm glad to see the good citizens of Windom stand behind their Cheif! Dirty politics are everywhere!

What a trip. I looked forward to reading about former citizens and friends. I almost fell over laughing while reading about the same old crap going on in this lovely SMALLMINDED town. Sure Dan should have followed the rules. However what is the REAL harm in letting the unit go to a wedding? I'm certain that IF there was a call; there was a firefighter or two there that would've done what firefighters always do. They would've put the wedding on hold and done their JOB. I don't wish a fire on anyone, nor do I wish this silliness on an excellent fire chief. That said, I hope that the people of Windom know that they have a great group of people watching over the safety of them as go through their lives.
Oh, and keep the laughs coming. I just love to hear about all of the goings on in the "old home town".

How terrible, I think the Chief deserves life in prison without parole. Never mind that as a volunteer Fireman he risks his life, gives up valuable time away from family, many times loses good cloths because he got a fire call just before church. Not to mention the money volunteers save cities over a full time Department. Yes I guess if he was told not to he should get be reprimand. By the official who told him not to let the truck off city property needs to go to common sense school. I sure the fireman who was getting married is very proud to be a Fireman for the city as shown by wanting to have a truck in pictures of one of the most important days of his life, maybe the city council there should change the name of the city from Windom to Whinedunb.

I bet you would have seen guys (and gals possibly) in their wedding clothes rushing to this truck or to the station at any time during or after the wedding to save someone else's STUFF if their pagers went off. They don't take vacation time for stuff like this...they just go when called. And to thank them the city slaps the chief in the face. Bravo.

I will bet you that if a call came in they would have dropped everything and answered that call wedding or not. They risk their lives everyday for us. No harm done big deal. I would be honored to have a fire truck in my photo. Go out today and thank a fire fighter. As to the whistle blower - bite me! find something worth complaining about

He's the chief of the department and it's a piece of equipment within his department, he should have had to ask anyone for permission. How much of a hick town do you need to live in that won't allow a firefighter one time use of a fire truck for his/her wedding? My goodness that is just so incredibly stupid.

The chief forgot one basic rule - "It is easier to say your sorry than to ask permission." He should have just done it without asking then he would have not been violating a direct order. I agree with everyone who says this is stupid - it is the least the town can do for the volunteer firefighters.
