FEMA wants its money back

That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of!

we're barely on our feet...how can we repay anything right now?

Maybe FEMA should ask Michael Brown to pay his salary back. He was the biggest rip-off of all! What a joke. We have billions and billions of dollars to spend on "rebuilding Iraq" after we tore it apart and can't spare a dime for innocent citizens who lost everything they owned to a natural disaster. I think this administration has turned out to be an Un-natural Disaster.

I am glad that Federal money was spent on the Katrina Hurricane victims. They were wrecked, and needed a hand. I hope that hand is there if I ever need it. In addition to my tax money, I also donated money, as I did to the Tsunami victims in SE Asia, and the firemen & victims of the September 11, 2001 mass terrorist murders.

It is good that the Federal Government recovers money mispent on duplicate payments and fraud.

I would like to see these same FEMA investigators sent from Gulfport over to IRAQ to see what is happening to the $$$$$$$$$$ BILLIONS of US dollars which have been stolen and misappropriated.

I heard one story of a sugar plant in a village in Iraq. It was wrecked. Halliburton gave an estimate of $5,000,000. to rebuild it. There was a problem however, they could not start the job for two quarters, they were swamped with jobs.
The mayor of the village and the factory owner decided not to wait for Halliburton. The villagers had no work. They raised funds, and were able to get the factory up & working for $5,000.

One billion US taxpayers' DOLLARS just "disappeared."

How good if Bush's pals got the same bums rush as our home-less or home-wrecked brothers and sisters along the gulf coast.

I think that it is a disgrace that FEMA wants there money back.Everything that the Katrina victims lost,family and friends they lost. FEMA have the nerve to ask those poor people to pay that money back. In New Orleans they said some people will have thirty days to pay that money back.

I was advised by a government employee that a lot of the billions was wasted by FEMA and others. Prehaps they should get refunds from those who overcharged for junky trailers and the conpanies who overcharged for service not rendered. Be advised that some business owners received unemployment the same as their employees. It's just amazing the lengths that people will go to to steal.

When tax dollars are abused by the people that used fraud to receive it they should do more than pay it back. 1000's of people that didn't even live in MS showed up to get in on the $2000. Some people used as many as 17 different ss# to get it, Fema sent the money on good faith that you needed it and that money should be paid back with a prison sentence. Fema does't want back what was legally received.

I agree with Peggy. When monies are given in error or thru fraud, there should be no question they should be paid back. You can carry on all you want about need and loss and mismanagment, but the bottom line is that if you had it coming, it is still yours. If you didn't have it coming, you owe it back.

And lets have the GOVERMENT pay us back for all their overspending, bad policys, the tax we pay for the oil companies etc. And no I got no aid, but, I don't mind my money going to help those in need. The BIG FAT OIL companies don't need it and we the tax payer our giving them how much PER GALLON????

FEMA has always been know to be like a loan company, they say they going to help people out and give them the money they need to get a new start or rebuild, but they never say you would have to pay this money/loan back.

fema is a joke if anything they do things unhandily.

screw FEMA better get help from the Red-+ or some other place. FEMA is not a free ticket

Right on! What a joke he was and is. Brownie is now a consulatant on emergency management...doesn't that take the cake?

If FEMA gave the money to people that trully deserve it GREAT. It should NOT be required to be paid back. Most lost everything they own. If the money was obtained illegally, those should be prosecuted and forced to pay it back double.

fema placed a trailer on my property 2 WEEKS AGO. I lost my home, 2 vehicles and every thing I had owned in katrina 8 MONTHS AGO (I was not near a flood zone so I didn't have flood insurance). The fema trailer is UNOCCUPIED as they have been unable to connect the electricity even though my power was back on within 3 weeks of the storm. I still live in a homade tent and my kids are without a home (there are quite a few of us here on Miss. gulf coast in the same situation). fema's effort to collect fraudulent claims should be an issue taken care of by some other agency so that fema can do their jobs. It's a simple matter of prioritization (sp?). fema does not have their stuff together and should be scrapped and replaced by an organization who does what they are designed to do.

You guys are brave and inspirational. I wish someone would make a movie about you. Electrical connections are soooo hard. One or wo hot wires, a return, and a ground. Will they have to plumb it in too?

Your right about FEMA needing someone to collect the monies paid out to people who collected under false pretenses and they need to go to jail or time in our damaged area helping out with no pay. I for one recived nothing and turned it down when offered, because others needed it worse, and I still feel that way. It just makes me so angry that there are those who take advantage in times like these.

FEMA is heartless, and did not give us a dime, no trailer, nothing because we were out of town during Katrina. I like the comment, "Michael Brown should refund his salary." Thank goodness for the SBA which has helped us out, but how are we going to repay a mortgage during our "golden years." If we recovered from the Carpet Baggers during the late 1860's, I guess we will have to do it again in the 2000´s.

You are so right.

Situations like this should not be happening. FEMA sends out several different inspectors to trailers all the time to check the A/C, check to see if you are still living there, etc. They do this instead of delivering trailers. What are they doing!?

There are still a lot of people here who need all sorts of help. If it weren't for the volunteers, we would be in much worse shape. Thank you to all of the volunteers who have come here and will come here in the future.
