Why should wealthy residents receive an age-based discount? I don't get it.

What makes you assume the older residents are wealthy? Just because they live in Bexley? That is quite a stereotype..

As a group, retirees are better off than any other age cohort in this country. They have more assets, their health care is largely paid for, they generally don't have housing payments and generally have fewer expenses than younger people do.

There are glaring exceptions. But this country's willingness to let tens of millions of younger citizens go without life necessities while we subsidize middle and upper middle class retirees is nuts.

This sounds like reverse age discrimination. Ms. Kennedy has a good point and maybe the solution is for residents to pay based on the amount of trash they produce...in the end this would be the fairest way to charge as long as administrating this didn't offset the savings.

The best idea on reducing costs for Bexley trash would be to have residents move their garbage cans to the curb or at least down their driveway so the crew picking it up didn't burn so much time driving up and down each driveway to get the trash.

No. Not giving someone a discount is not discrimination, and no federal law says that upper middle class retirees get subsidies from the rest of us for their trash removal. Trust me on that one.
