Why dont all the dying towns move to or move their homes to one town in their area that has the best location. Exsample all towns around Glasco should move or have their homes moved to Glasco and close the dying towns. This would keep one town alive instead of five towns dying. They could combine their history not to forget the towns they lost.

That sounds like quite the project there. Glasco is dead too, so I guess choose Beloit or Concordia to move to if thats what your thinking. There are always going to be people in those towns as long as we farm the land. This area is sustained by farming. Its rural life everywhere not just in KS. Good luck!

That's where you are wrong. Thirty years ago small towns survived because of farms. But now only 20% of them work for or on farms. Why do you think the State and Federal Gov. offer free retraining for exfarm workers. Again Glasco sold more homes in 2008 than any local can remember. Plus Glasco has sold two homes this year. Ada,Wells and Culver KS. also thought the farms would save their town and look them now.

So, hows the grocery store doing in Glasco? Or the gas station? Ohhh thats right, you can get a gallon of milk at hodge podge, ooops silly me. Good luck. I'd love to see you convince people to uproot and move for the sake of history. Those towns are done.

Abiliene, according to State records Abiliene's not looking so HOT. Maybe they are moving to KC. or Salina. How many kids has your school lost the last five years. At least Glasco is growing when many KS. towns are dying. For location we are only 10 minutes to Beloit, 20 minutes to Concordia, 50 minutes to Salina or Clay Center on a good State Highway just 10 miles off 81/I-35 so we can go North,South,East, or West easy can outher Kansas towns do this? Example Delphos KS. has to drive up to 24 hwy. or over to 81 hwy. to go any place. So Thanks and Good Luck,

Oh no. I'm here. I just thought this isn't an argument. I'll save my thoughts for something that is realistic. BTW, I live in Beloit. Because my home accounts says Abilene does not mean I live there. That must be where my web server is located? I don't really know. I have web service from Salina. Guess I should uproot and move there now huh?

To each their own. Thats the great thing about America, freedom of choice. I guess I misunderstood your threads meaning, Is it "dying Kansas schools" or "dying KS towns"? Your original post mentions nothing about schools.

A school closing does not kill a town, I would argue, rather that the school closing is the victim of a dying town and economy. The town is already dying and the school is just one more casualty. This is a sad state of affaires this area is in wish someone could come up with a viable solution. One more note, the only way delphos is going to attract any one to move there is to clean up all the junky houses that are all over town .

They were fine untell they lost their school. I bought a house there 10 years ago for $30k then sold it 5 years ago for $48,500. now they can't sell this home for $26,900. the town is dying fast. The only thing they lost was their school. Then their store and then maney families. Most of them moved to Glasco,KS and love it Im one of them.

Hi, I have lived in Beloit 20 years or so, but I can't come up with a single Beloit student that is attending Southern Cloud or Lincoln schools? Not trying to call you out on your facts, I just can't think of a single one.

Beetle, I hate to call you out also. But The dept. of ed shows Southern Cloud as having 236 students, not the 400 you reported in another post. Maybe the 400 number you have is FTE. That is very possable, but a very diffrent number than actual head count. Also the KSHSAA shows grades 10-12 numbers as Glasco-35 and Miltonvale-23. These numbers in one district with two seperate K-12 systems, is really not a healthy situation. Looks like some reorganization might be in order.

I am sorry, I check again I miss posted we have 242 students. THATS up 44 kids in almost ten years. Not bad when most small KS. schools have lost more than we have gained.

I may have misunderstood. I thought you were saying kids living in Beloit were going to school in Glasco, Concordia, and Lincoln. And that ain't happening.
