Tradition (either it be God, Allah, Jesus Christ or the Goddess and Atheists), should never be erradicated from the face of our planet. The reason why we are in this forum is discuss a forward thinking mindset. Who's faith or spirituality is right or wrong? We do not know. It is expected that we all question the origins of our faith and religion. Only when our children question.....Why? Mabey..........but just one day, our children will never feel the hurt or pain that was never meant to happen x

Without knowing the Athiests and Pagans in question, I will take the author's assertation that they did this to 'ruin' and 'hijack' the displays with a grain of salt. They used their right of free speech to be allotted some of the display spaces and put their own messages as pertains to the holiday season. Considering that Christians had the run of the spaces for 60 years I don't think it is the end of the world that non-Christains had more spaces one year. No one is stopping Christains, Athiests or Pagans from putting up their own decorations at their own churches and homes and I think that is maybe the underlying point. Instead of burdening a city goverment with the task of sorting and alloting displays and promoting diversity in a public space, why don't they just concern themselves with protecting private citizen's rights on private or non-government communal property (i.e. churches and the like)? Isn't that the appropriate place for holiday messages and displays? There are plenty of non-religious ways a city can dress up for a holiday and have a spirit without either favoring one religion or trying to cram and represent them all at once.
If they want to promote a community spirit and set a tradition of accepting all religions and Athiests why not a charity event where churches and groups are welcome to sponsor and provide something meaningful or helpful representing their group? This method they have of allotting a certain number of spaces for displays just breeds competition and a sense of unfairness as it did to non-Christians when they got most or all spaces or to the Christians when non-Christains all of the sudden got more spaces.

I didn't say *I* thought it was unfair, but obviously the system they used bred resentment when the group that always got the most suddenly didn't one year. I think it's actually hilarious kinda like if the popular kids didn't all get their extra pictures in the year-book one year and instead all the nerds got the most face-time.

Fully agree with shopping center part. If I could I would use a Ipod so I can listen to music I like. One goecory store near me as the habit of playing 80's music which is cool. So fair no Christmas Music and difently no Country! Popular kids is GOOD comparsings to these idoits. Said populary kids who throw a hiss fit and destory neard kids lockers.
