Cat fight breaks out over declawing animals in California

I have never been a cat lover but cats need their claws for protection and they allow cats to climb trees to escape danger. They are also dangerous weapons as anyone who was been scratched. I know of one young child who almost lost her eyes to a cat attack, not to mention the furnature that always ends being damaged.
When they declaw a cat they remove part of the paw. It is like having the last inch of your finger cut off.
There are people out there who say if they can't declaw their cat they won't have them. Now if a person loses their eye and it is proven the owner wanted to declaw the cat and couldn't, who is responsible?
Ma by the best thing is for goverment to let people decide who makes on the decission and accepts the liability.

I'm all for declawing -- as long as those who elect this procedure for innocent and blameless cats who were created with claws for a very good reason will go first to their doctors and have all of their fingers whacked off at the first joint. It's the same thing, folks; except that we don't need our last finger joints for the same things cats need their complete paws for, and often find themselves homeless or worse because they are unable to do once some monstrous b@$!@rd does this to them. You want to do this to someone, YOU DO IT TO YOURSELF FIRST.

ANY VET who would do this should be stripped of his license and then have a broom handle shoved up his ARSE. I personally would risk jail for beating the crap out of a vet who would do this. As far as I'm concerned its animal abuse, plain and simple.

I agree with all of the above. It is animal abuse to declaw a cat. Wtihout their claws they have no way of protecting themselves so it threatens their survival. Those who want it should definitely have half their fingers chopped off first so they can experiece a small similiarty as to what the cat must feel after it has been declawed.

With indoor only cats, softpaws ( www.softpaws.com ) is an alternative. To maim an animal is cruel.

I would never dream of getting my cat declawed. It's a vital form of protection. No, my cat isn't allowed outside, but should she ever slip out I want to know she can protect herself!

If I was so worried about furniture (over her care) I just wouldn't have her. I have to say though, she's never scratched at any of it. I guess the carpeted towers I got her do the trick.

My kids sometimes bit things when they were little. I didn't run them off to get their teeth pulled. Animals are part of families and deserve to be treated as such!
