Hello all,

I'm asking for your help because I don't know what to do. A friend of mine is really in need of help this Christmas. Her name is Katherine and she has 3 children ages 9, 7 and 2. Her husband left her about 5 months ago and has not been seen since. He took all the money in their checking account and left her with no funds. She lost her full time job when her car broke down and is now working part time at a gas station which she walks to. I'm 67 years old and widowed, I do what I can but can only do so much. She has no family nearby. She is not on welfare. She is barely making it with the little money she makes. But she has no money for Christmas and she is depressed and losing hope. I'm asking for donations, no matter how big or small, anything would be greatly appreciated for this family. She is too proud to ask for help. She shops at goodwill for clothing, and shops at a grocery salvage for food which carries mostly expired can goods. They live off hotdogs, ramen noodles and bologna sandwiches most days. Can anyone find it in their heart to help? Even $1 would be wonderful. I have a paypal account that I use for ebay. You may send your donation through paypal to hope.1775@yahoo.com and I will see it gets to her before Christmas so that her and her kids can enjoy the holidays.

Thank you and God Bless.

Your post location display reads Kentucky. That doesn't necessarily mean you or her is in that state, though.

Try asking local churches for help.

You never said her husband worked. If he was able to but would not provide for his family, maybe she's better off without the bum. Now, she can have him hunted down for being a dead beat parent and he can forced to pay child support.

Was a taxi cab or bus or something else available for the distance?
Try investing in a bicycle.

Is that necessary for us to know? Unless you're trying to say that your wife contributed financially and now those finances are lacking.
Would it had cost too much for you to had her car fixed?

Well, she better look into it and soon.

Times are tough all over for many people. Many can't afford gifts every year. America needs to stop focusing on materialism. Her children are lucky to have her and she is lucky to have them this Christmas. Look at the families in Newtown, CT that lost their little ones in the school shooting!

There is no way for us to know that these people actually exist. There is no way for us to know that you are representing yourself correctly.

Well, she isn't too proud to take from you is she? She better put away that pride for the sake of her children. Seek the charity of local churches and apply for welfare. There should be no shame in getting welfare when it really is needed.

You make it sound like those are horrible living conditions. Some would consider that living like royalty. Look at third world countries having little childeren starved with their ribs showing through their skinny malnourished bodies and drinking dirty water.

Once again, we don't know if this family actually exists or if you are even representing yourself correctly. Once again, enjoying the holidays isn't always about materialism. You say you are widowed and 67. Invite them over or go over to her house and help provide a nice meal. It would be like having a daughter and grandkids. Get them some inexpensive gifts. It's the thought that counts. We are so fortunate just to be alive and healthy.

I'm waiting for a follow up to read how things turned out for Christmas.

It could be a scam. Maybe for money. Maybe identity theft. But it might be true.

Topix should have a means to have these kinds of threads investigated. If they are legit, Topix could flag them as so and let readers know. If not, they can remove the threads and have the criminals arrested. After all, if they are fake, it is the Topix user who is having the advantage taken of them if they go along with it.
