Thanks to the staff at the Daily News for covering the race and providing a great resource for the residents of CD 12; for anyone interested, our campaign is having an event in the district today, beginning at 2 p.m, at 20051 Vintage Street, Chatsworth, CA 91311.

Please RSVP via e-mail to bradsmith@smithforcouncil.org.

Our campaign website is:

smithforcouncil.org

You will find statements on issues, a biography, and ways to volunteer and support for this effort, which is a truly grass-roots campaign.

I was born and raised here, and I want to see real positive change – which is why I would like your help in the race for Council District 12 on the March ballot. District 12 is at a crossroads: We must decide whether to protect and maintain single-family residential neighborhoods, or allow unlimited development. The current leadership has given us decades of over-development and traffic, and only paid lip service to residents’ concerns. It is time for a change.

As lifelong residents of the northwest San Fernando Valley, my wife Maria and I have done our best to try and maintain our neighborhood as the kind of community we grew up in: a safe and quiet middle class neighborhood within the city of Los Angeles.

Angelenos need to fight to protect our communities at every level, from the neighborhood councils to City Hall. That is why I am involved, and that is why I would appreciate your support for Los Angeles City Council District 12.

Best,

Brad

My name is YJ Draiman and I am running for L.A. City Council CD12 – 2011

Our current economic crisis is the number one concern of every American. It is time we exercise our constitutional right.
It is a government by the people for the people. It makes no difference whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or any other political affiliation. It is time America’s citizens take control of their destiny and country starting from the city government to the county, state and the federal government. All elected officials must be accountable to their community and its residents. Our current budget crisis was brought about by the current administration – do you want this to continue and lose city services. I am a soldier in the battle to restore fiscal sanity for our district and our city, improve the economic well being of the district and the welfare of all residents.
Capitalism has not failed. The people in charge of the economy have failed Capitalism!!!!! Capitalism has been hijacked by career politicians, who disguise themselves as representatives of the people.
Enough is enough; we need to replace as many incumbents as possible, the changing of the guards must be implemented and the political machine dismantled, business as usual must stop here and now, government treasury should not be the personal piggy bank of the politicians.
We need new representatives in our government, representatives whose allegiance is to the residents of their district, representatives who care about Los Angeles surviving the current economic crisis and becoming better for it.
We must reduce big government - The bigger the government the less efficient it is.
Our energy consumption is growing rapidly; we must produce a hundred percent of our energy needs in our own country.
We have the manpower and technology, let us utilize it.
We must encourage new businesses, create more jobs and stabilize the economy.
Government cannot create jobs. Government should be reduced by at least fifty percent, streamline government, enact laws, rules, regulations and taxation that are friendly to small business. Encourage investment in our economy and workforce.
This economic crisis is a national emergency.
People are losing their jobs and homes, and we must establish a mechanism similar to the Manhattan project of World War 2, with an all out genuine national effort to resolve the current economic crisis which threatens to destroy our country.
Transparency and accountability is my motto

YJ Draiman for LA City Council 7 points Statement
YJ Draiman for City Council Statement
In my humble opinion the biggest problem I see is the Pensions.
It takes a major portion of the City Budget and keeps on growing. This is a problem many Cities and States are facing. A solution has to be found.
The second problem is the Unions.
They are no longer an asset to the public, but a hindrance in solving the budget crisis and very inefficient in work performance and very costly.
The Third item is the need to cut the City staff, reduce spending, eliminate redundancy, consolidate departments, increase efficiency and reward performance.
The Fourth item needing to be addressed is Mayor should appoint one neighborhood council member to each of the city's boards of commissioners including the proprietary departments as well, either through a charter amendment, ordinance or by policy directive.
The Fifth item is to make the city more business friendly to attract businesses, not chase them away and reduce revenues. This takes a multitude of actions. Appoint LADWP ratepayer advocate.
The Sixth item is to improve education and reduce the top heavy LAUSD administration. We need to make our schools an education icon, not a warehousing of students.
The seventh item is to improve public transportation.
People today are concerned about a roof over their head and a Job this is top priority.

I think this is good for starters.(There are many more items)
Thank you
YJ Draiman for Los Angeles City Council 2011

PS. The key is for everyone to work together without any hidden agenda. The only concern should be the current City budget crises and the residents of the community. Everything must be above board and transparent.

Instant gratification and No commitment

People today are looking for instant gratification without considering others or the consequences. They are reluctant or lacking any intention of making a commitment and abiding by that commitment.

Politicians are known for saying the right things at the right time with no real intentions of believing in what they say or the desire to adhere to their promises. It is all for show in front of the Media and the public. Everything has to do with what is politically correct, whether it is the right thing to do or not. Money, economic benefits, fame and power are the controlling interest. The honest concern for the public is covered up with make believe and illusion of responding to public outcry.

Many of the causes are; Peer pressure, living up to the joneses and todays fast moving society and technology.

The technology we grew up with could easily have cultivated a "now or never" attitude, a predilection for instant gratification that no previous generation had to encounter.

It is time to look beyond self interest, fame and glory. It is time for a conviction to do what is right and ethical for the public interest with no hidden agenda. It is time to regain the trust of the public with honesty, integrity and true intentions and deeds for the public benefit.

Do not look for the quick fix, the best and lasting fix takes strong resolve, hard work, determination and perseverance to accomplish the ultimate goal on behalf of all humanity.

Rebuilding Trust in Our Government

One of Americas statesmen stated government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. His presidency ushered in an era of disdain for government and a widespread cynicism that government could be effective in addressing our challenges.

Today, as we confront a crisis that has shaken confidence in our financial system and economy, we have an opportunity to restore public trust and confidence in the legitimate role of government. Indeed, to effectively tackle our economic challenges and to implement the reforms we need in our healthcare, education, energy, and environmental policies, our government will need to garner strong public support.

However, rebuilding public trust will not happen in the face of a pervasive perception that government is not transparent and accountable, cronyism is rampant, and public officials are more interested in helping themselves than in serving the public good.

Taking strong, swift, and decisive action to address abuses and begin to rebuild public trust should be the first priority for our city, state and federal government in the new legislative session.

Create a Task Force on Public Integrity with a mission to develop a comprehensive proposal for ethics and lobbying reform in our city and state. Which addresses reforms in three areas:(1) strengthening enforcement of ethics, campaign finance, and lobbying laws; (2) strengthening civil and criminal penalties for abuses; and (3) improving awareness and education for public officials.

Reinforce honesty, integrity and transparency by government officials as the core requirement to be and stay in office, any violations of these core tenets will cause the removal of the public official and the loss of all benefits retroactive.

While the many of our elected officials and government employees are honest, dedicated public servants, the actions of a few create a dark cloud over all.

Taking strong, swift, and decisive action to address these abuses and begin to rebuild public trust should be the first priority for our city, state and federal government in the new legislative session.

We need honest government with integrity.

Good leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion

Public confidence in the integrity of the Government is indispensable to faith in democracy; and when we lose faith in the system, we have lost faith in everything we fight and spend for.

Our current economic crisis is the number one concern of every American.

As citizens of this democracy, you are the rulers and the ruled, the law-givers and the law-abiding, the beginning and the end.

Every age needs men who will redeem the time by living with a vision of the things that are to be.

Freedom is not an ideal, it is not even a protection, if it means nothing more than the freedom to stagnate.

Mission Statement Draiman

Sustainability We must strive to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We should discourage wastefulness and misuse, and promote efficiency and conservation.

The deterioration of family values R4

Since World War 2 when women were encouraged to join the work force en mass, to replace the men who went to war and keep the economy and the war effort going.

There has been a deterioration of family values and a breakdown of the family unit, a trend where a mother was not at home to take care of her children, monitor their behavior, help with the homework and discipline when and where necessary.

The advancement in technology has harmed family values. The Media and Television has totally destroyed any comprehension of values in our society.

The lack of discipline and total disregard for authority and respect is clear to anyone who has watched the past 50 years and seen our societys values deteriorate.

One example alone is that 50 years ago a teacher was happy to go to school to teach, a teacher was respected and looked up-to, a teacher could discipline. Today teachers fear for their lives they are petrified by their students, discipline is restricted both to teachers and parents alike.

This scenario caries on to other social interactions of society today, and the situation is getting worse and worse every year.

You will notice that many families who come from other countries have a very strong family values, tradition, good education, respect and the children excel in their studies. That is because they have not had the chance to be influenced by our overly liberal society.

The education of our children begins at home and continues in school the parents and the school must take a proactive approach to teach our children values and respect.

In todays society a teacher is not permitted to discipline a student, the teachers will be sued, not to mention that teachers fears for their safety.

Parents in todays society are also restricted as to how to discipline their children; in many cases parents are getting sued. In many cases children would never dream of treating their parents with such disrespect 50 years ago. Today some parents are afraid of their own children.

Abuse has been and will be with society to eternity that does not give society the right to prohibit discipline; a few acts of abuse should not cause society to prohibit proper discipline.

When an individual or individuals utilize a vehicle to commit a crime cause the death of others, does society prohibit vehicles altogether, no, a vehicle is very important for our everyday life.

Well, the discipline of our children by parents and teachers is extremely important for our society and the preservation of humanity.
It seems that our society is so busy chasing the dollar, fame and glory, that anything goes all values goes out the window. We should be an example of honesty, integrity and respect to our children.

Are Americans patriotic and proud enough to defend, protect and bring family values back to America? Is America ready to fight for honesty integrity and justice in our society, eliminate corruption and fraud, waste and self serving programs?

Re-invigorate our economy and decrease our dependence on foreign economies and resources.

The spirit of man cannot be conquered

No responsible leader shall state that he will destroy a country or a nation and its people.
Hate breeds hate.
In a shrinking Global economy, people of the world should and must learn to live in harmony.
Every one is entitled to practice their religion and beliefs without interfering with others and/or enforcing their beliefs and customs.
Everyone should be treated with respect and dignity.
It is time for everyone to open their eyes and realize that conflict and hate will only advance world destruction and the abomination of humanity.
I believe that Coexistence means peace and harmony. If we do not achieve peace and harmony soon, we will all perish. It is up to us to change the world and bring peace and harmony to all people."

YJ Draiman, Northridge, CA.

PS
Science must be learned; it cannot be conquered. An army that can occupy knowledge has yet to be built. And that is why armies of occupation are a thing of the past. Indeed, even for defensive purposes, a country cannot rely on its army alone. Territorial frontiers are no obstacle to ballistic missiles, and no weapon can shield from a nuclear device. Today, therefore the battle for survival must be based on political wisdom and moral vision no less than on military might.
Countries used to divide the world into their friends and foes. No longer. The foes now are universal - poverty, famine, religious radicalization, desertification, drugs, proliferation of nuclear weapons, ecological devastation. They threaten all nations, just as science and information are the potential friends of all nations.
Classical diplomacy and strategy were aimed at identifying enemies and confronting them. Now they have to identify dangers, global or local, and tackle them before they become disasters.
As we part a world of enemies, we enter a world of dangers. And if future wars break out, they will probably be wars of protest, of the weak against the strong, and not wars of occupation, of the strong against the weak.

Sustainability advocacy Initiation
A few Tried and True Strategies for Inspiring Environmental change
Many business leaders find it challenging to lead others on the path to sustainability - and not necessarily because theyre working with a tough audience (although that happens too). Rather the trouble lies in their inability to communicate in way that generates real-world action and measurable results. But certain individuals seem to have cracked the code - theyve figured out how to turn environmental conversations into sustainable changes for their companies, and for the environment. What exactly are these leaders doing differently, and how can we learn from them?
Principle I: Emphasize the business necessity.
Aspiring change leaders must have their heads wrapped firmly around the financial implications of their pet environmental initiatives. Environmental strategy consultant believes that creating a compelling business need is by far the most critical factor for getting decision makers on board with green initiatives. The good news for aspiring sustainability leaders is that the case for business necessity is getting easier to make with every passing day.
Customers are asking questions about environmental performance, and Companies like Wal-Mart will give more shelf space to those companies that can reduce their footprint. Employees demanding more from companies they work for is another clear force that creates a compelling business need - its tough enough to compete for the best talent without turning them off on values-driven and environmental issues.
The take-home? When seeking to serve the sometimes elusive triple bottom line, make sure you start with the bottom-line that decision makers value most- cold, hard cash. This topic is sure to get them listening.
Principle II: Frame environmental goals in terms of the others self interest.
With work demands and obligations bombarding them at every possible moment, how can we get organizational leaders to make our green initiative a priority? Heres the secret of all motivational conversationalists: Take the perspective of the person you are speaking to and frame your agenda so that it occurs to other person as highly relevant to their own personal goals.
Of course, to accomplish this requires that we do a minimal amount of homework to learn more about our audience. What are their goals? How do these goals relate to our proposal? What do they have to gain by our success? This may seem like a lot to think through up front, but if we are willing to make a habit of this sort of analysis our persuasive abilities will skyrocket.
A good example comes from environmental initiatives for one company. Which has a distinguished track record of leading change in the organization and attributes much of the success to this simple habit? There are multiple benefits to all environmental initiatives, so the language we use to impart the message has to mirror that diversity,For example, if Im promoting an energy conservation initiative such as a lighting retrofit for the facilities, I will need to alter my message based upon my audience. I need to address the financial savings on our utility bill to the finance folks, the labor and maintenance benefits to the technicians in the field, and the quality of light with clients or tenants of the facility.
Principle III: Appeal to enlightened self-interest.
Once youve framed your proposal in terms of ever-pressing financial imperatives and the other persons self-interest, feel free invoke the better angels of your audiences nature. YJ Draiman, Energy, Telecom & Water Conservation Specialist

Today's economic crisis is greater peril than World War II
Today we are losing the economic war to foreign nations, hungry people, increased unemployment, housing crisis, Trillions in deficits, various Cities and States on a verge of Bankruptcy.
Worse we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Our education system is faltering. Values and morality are disintegrating.
This is a bigger war than World War II.
How do we overcome these crises? It is imperative we reverse the trend.
We must work together to overcome the current crises.
We have to be creative and resourceful.
We have to drastically reduce our fossil fuel consumption
Anyone has a logical and profound answer, I would like to hear.
I have a feeling it is going to get worse, before it gets better.

YJ Draiman, Northridge, CA
PS
It is, regrettably, no exaggeration to say that we are living in an era of irrationality, deception, confusion, anger, and unfocused fear -- an ominous combination, with few precedents. There has never been a time when it was so important to have a voice of sanity, insight, and understanding of what is happening in the world.
The US economy has disintegrated, and with it into the abyss plummet the blueprints of neoliberal economists, whose theories about "the free market" have now gone the way of medieval alchemy.

We have the Constitutional Right to Bear Arms and Defend Ourselves - 2nd Amendment
The Second Amendment is one of our most cherished. The right to keep and bear arms is what keeps government subservient to its citizenry. Without the right to bear arms, we would have anarchy in the streets, the criminals would still have guns, and violent crime would escalate.
You might also ask the Jewish survivors under Adolph Hitler how things might have been different had they kept their weapons.
Did you ever wonder why the 2nd Amendment was so important to our Founding Fathers?
Patrick Henry's gave his famous "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death Speech" March 23, 1775 at St. John's Episcopal church in Richmond, Virginia. The colonists had experienced a ten year reign of terror under King George III. Henry made a motion for the immediate armament of a militia. His motion was seconded by Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
During the summation on behalf of his motion Henry said : "If we would be free, if we mean to hold inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have so long contended, if we mean not basely to abandon the noble cause for which we have so long endured, and to which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon, until the glorious object of our contest should be obtained, then we must fight! I repeat Sir, we must fight! A call to arms and an appeal to the God of hosts is all that we have left."
Less than 30 days later on April 19th, the first official shot of the American Revolution occurred at the Battle of Lexington and Concord. THE WAR STARTED OVER THE ISSUE OF GUN CONTROL. A church Pastor was leading his troops in close order drill, a British Regiment came by and ordered them to lay down their arms. They refused, shots were fired and the war was on.
James Wilson, an original Justice on the Supreme Court, exhorted: "The first and governing maxim in the interpretation of a statute is to discover the meaning of those who made it.
"Amen, Amen, Amen!
Sadly this sage advice has been discarded. Now an all powerful Supreme Court MAKES laws rather than interpret them.
So here are just a very few quotes which will explain the "meaning of those who made it":
Alexander Hamilton:
"The Supreme Being gave existence to man, together with the means of preserving and beautifying that existence. He invested him with an inviolate right to personal liberty and personal safely
Sam Adams, Father of the American Revolution:
"The Constitution should never be construed to prevent the people of the United States...from keeping their own arms."
Patrick Henry:
"The great object is that every man be armed... Everyone who is able may have a gun"
Thomas Jefferson:
"And what country can preserve it's liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms."
George Mason, Co Author of the Bill of Rights:
"Divine Providence has given to every individual the means of self defense."
George Washington:
"A free people ought to be armed."
James Madison:
"The advantage of being armed the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation..the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."
Thomas Paine:
"Arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property."
Edmund Randolph:
"A people who mean to be free must be prepared to meet danger in person , and not rely upon the falacious protection of armies.
I could go on and on with other quotes, but I would say its pretty clear what the intent of the Fathers was. Oh but you say it couldn't happen here, Americans wouldn't stand for it, But my friend it HAS HAPPENED HERE!!!!!!!!!
We plan on exercising these rights to the fullest extent of the Constitutional Law.
Our society today is brainwashed that when some people abuse their constitutional rights we must punish all of society and revoke that right and privilege.

We must take responsibility for our actions if we are to succeed

To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right. When you start realizing that you alone are responsible for your own life, then things start getting better. It might be scary at first, because now you do not have anyone else to blame. However, there is a level of freedom associated with taking responsibility for your life. The price of greatness is responsibility. There is some point in your life where you can no longer be persuaded by what the crowd is doing. You can no longer feel comfortable with the status quo. You have this feeling deep within you that there is more to life and that,if it is to be, it is up to me. That day is a very good day, because you have just learned a major secret to life. You are the creator of your own destiny and only you can make your dreams come true.Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.

Family, Honesty and morality are the foundation of society.

Americas financial sustainability begins with Made in America

Americans must wake up and take action to protect our liberty and way of life.

America must rejuvenate itself and become the huge industrial power it once was.

It starts by re-inventing the wheel and building manufacturing facilities in the United States that employ Americans who produce quality goods at a competitive price with space age technology and modernization.

Organized workforce and benefits has to be revamped to meet today's economic conditions.

Government and its bureaucracy must be reduced and streamlined. Rules and regulations must be revamped to be conducive to business growth and development.

Good leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion

Draiman says that voters deserve to hear from all Mayoral candidates on the ballot

It is anti democratic to ignore candidates who have earned their place to be on the ballot.

In the current political mood and the growing apathy by voters it is imperative that every candidate who is officially on the ballot to be heard by the public.

Ignoring these candidates only reinforces to the voting public that money and not the most qualified candidate is given a chance to run for office with a level playing field.

The deck is stacked against a candidate who is not willing to be swayed by money and political influence. This is a sad day for our Democracy.

The Media and the various organizations who host a candidate forum debate have a great responsibility to present unbiased information to the public, of all the candidates that appear on the ballot with a level playing field.

To ignore some candidates is a distortion of our Democratic oath and they are practicing the very same unacceptable behavior that they are trying to correct in todays political scene.

By ignoring candidates who are on the ballot the voters are deprived of critical information and opinions of all the candidates on the ballot. It is a disservice to the community at large.

Angelenos have the right to an open and balanced election process resting on the values of our democracy, which is open to all candidates.

We have to show to the public how real democracy at work by presenting all the candidates, not just the select few.

The right to vote is the right that protects all other rights. That includes all official candidates.

Who can save the City of Los Angeles from bankruptcy? YJ Draiman for Mayor of LA

I am a firm believer that you can accomplish more with honey than with vinegar.
The City of Los Angeles is on the brink of Municipal Bankruptcy. If that happens all of LA City employees will sustain a severe economic and financial blow, which cannot be rectified. The people who reside in the City of Los Angeles will sustain much hardship if this financial situation is not resolved amicably.
I propose that all parties handling the city finances and all Union organizations and other organizations that service the city should put all the cards on the table. Show all expenses and liabilities, a conservative approach to projected revenues, no fudging of expenses or revenues.
It is in the best interests of all parties to come to a compromise. Remember a piece of cake is better than no cake at all. Eventually the cow runs out of milk.
Todays economic and financial situation throughout Los Angeles and the rest of the country as a whole is the worst since the depression.
The City of Los Angeles must aggressively help businesses in trouble survive and court other businesses to locate in the City of Los Angeles. Businesses create jobs and revenues. We must look at the "multiplier affect of thriving businesses", which creates economic prosperity.
