I happen to know Douglas Mays very well & I know of his good Character. He is a young man who has a hyperactive disorder. He can not think before he acts. He is also A young man that would not hurt a hair on anyones head. He would give you the shirt of his back over & over again. I do hope the Judge will give this young man a chance to find his way back in to society. HE has already suffered great remorse for his prior behaviors while enduring this nmost cruel prison system. I know in my heart that this young man will be a pillar in the community if given another chance. Please Judge find in your heart some way to help this young man & not just throw him away. Thank you so much for your time. I pray I have made a difference for this bright young man.

I know the mother of Doug Mays and I remember him from his teenaged years. Among the decent students of the private school his good parents sent him to, few to none really liked him. I remember his disrespectful demeanor did not reflect the upbringing his parents gave him at all. That boy was given everything parents could give a child and he still dressed and acted like a thug thinking he was totally above the law. He was selling dope to kids when he was still in school. As for the comment from J Town.. there is no "over sentencing" for drug dealers. He "better not over sentenc him"...or what? Sounds like a threat to me..Those dealers have induced more pain and suffering on the community from where they were dealing than can be healed in a life time without remorse or feeling for the addict's family or for those victims of theft because of the addict's insatiable desire to elude the real world in a cloud of smoke or with a simple injection. Are these young men truly remorseful for what they've done or the fact that they're facing hard time? FEDERAL time, too..no good time there..it's day after day until their sentence is complete. Pillar of the community? Mr. Mays will have to do a lot of changing for that to happen. Through Christ, all things are possible. I will keep him and most definately his good family in my prayers...as well as JTown who apparently has the same thug ideals that the dopers have. Scarey that anyone with that attitude toward drugs would be on a military installation..God help us all.

To the sick of drugs from Sumter who knows the mother of Doug mays You hide behind Jesus Christ & say the ugly things about miss Mays son. How would you feel if you read this about your son after all the mays family went through & u degrade him & the mays read what you had to say about thir son . Maybe next time call miss mays since you know her & see how she is doing instead of runing her son down. A coward you are cuz u want even sign your name.GOD needs to help you !!

First of all, you can't always believe what you read and further more, some things (such as the newspaper article) are not what they appear to be. Doug Mays is my son and I feel like the "sick of drugs" person in Sumter and want to despise the person who first introduced my son to drugs but my son made a choice just as all those who called him in search. Quite frankly, most likely, it is just an environment of decent students that you obviously might not know very well. For you to make statements that you have towards my son, is sad and very un-Christian like. Why did you not reach out to him if you knew the situations you write of? Isn't that what Jesus taught us to do, instead you became those for whom he preached against. Judge not lest you be judged! I would like to thank you for the comments you made concerning me as a person but can not as you speak of my son separate from me. I always try to look beyond what is seen on the outside and I can always find some good about anyone. As for you Ms. Sandi, you comments are not necessary especially under the guise that you know my son very well. You in fact, do not, that is if you are speaking of my son. No matter, you don't know either one really.

I apologize, but this must be said. A previous comment was correct. You did make judgement - something that only God should do - and later talked about praying for him and his family. Are you too much of a hypocrite to understand that just because you go to a private school doesn't mean that life is perfect? So, are you saying from personal knowledge that the neighborhood that he grew up in did not introduce him to the life of drugs? Do you have personal knowledge that this young man did not watch those music videos - listen to the music that talks about easy money, cars, and women - and was sat down to learn that it was only entertainment?

Do you not understand that the drug game is double-sided? No one told the addicts to start using drugs. No one told them to take the money that they use to pay for it and give it to them...repeatedly. No one had sat with drug addicts to explain to them that they are the main key to stop drug from neighborhoods...

Do you understand that there are a lot of men in this country - particularly black men - that CANNOT get a decent job, no matter how hard they tried because if you hadn't notice, this society only survives from both the success and the failures of all. However, there is always an easy way to make a few bucks one way or another...

But no...you automatically deemed this man something that you have NO business to judge...instead of helping this man, you are hurting this man even more - instead of embracing this man to ensure that he gets the support that he needs, you spit on him because you feel that you are better than him to.

Stop your judgement and hypocrisy. Let God deal with it and love everyone because you never will understand the complete story if you do not listen. There is always two sides to every story.

And don't be ignorant...just because a person wears the uniform does not mean that they are not cases of drug use in the military.

God bless us all...

I agree with TJM 100 percent. You wanna sit here and judge people who u have not understanding or knowledge of. These young men are a victim of society. It is society who have baited these young men into the fast life. I personally blame the US Government for this situation. Do u know how hard it is to find a job? Have you ever had to worry about how you were going to provide for your family? I dont think so because the government sets up YOUNG BLACK MEN to fail in life. If you grew up in a certain neighborhood you become an outcast to society. Why is that? Because the government is afraid of a successful black man. That is why they choose to set up for failure!

Well Marty, where did you learn to read and write and spell? I don't think being a "drug addict" or a "substance abuser" is the kind of life most of us dream about. That the life you were referring to that Doug lived? I don't think so and I don't think his family gave him the money for him to buy his drug of choice, do you? Am I to infer from your comments, that if your family doesn't have money, it is ok to sell and distribute drugs? All of them are paying a price. Did it ever occur to you that they just got caught afterall, it was against the law. Lets just hope that they learn a lesson and you need to grow up for sure. What if a rapist broke into your house and tied your judgemental a** up and raped your wife and daughter in front of you. Do you think he would get 18 years. Hell no because it will stay a state case and they WILL offer him a plea agreement! Now Mr. "sick of drugs", who sounds worse? I admit selling drugs is not right but it ain't like drug dealers are forcing drug addicts to use drugs. This judge has a history of giving YOUNG BLACK MEN A HARSHER SENTENCING! This is Squeaks 1st f*cking time ever being in trouble and he gets 18 years. What the f*ck?????????? Has Judge Wooten ever heard of a second chance? And what have they stopped because crackheads still gone buy dope!
