1 It has nothing to do with religion, meathead- it's all about NIMBY. I'll bet 325 of the 350 that signed have cell phones. Everybody wants one that gets perfect reception 100% of the time, just don't put those towers near my house (next to your house is OK, though). |

I don't think there's any health danger with cell towers, but I think they're pushing it when they want to put in right on top of a school building.

1 Excuse me? Where's the downside? If the parishioners really object why not dig deeper in their pockets and donate to the church? Or better yet - go to church. Of the 350 people I bet only 10 go to church other than Christmas and Easter. |

The people that are against this are the first ones crying when they can't get a signal. They say it may hurt the children so why take a chance. Open your eyes! There are Satellite signals beaming down on your head all the time. Radio waves passing thru your body at this very moment. There is more radiation coming off your computer that your reading this on then these Antennas. If you want to bitch and cry then do it about something useful. Cry about the pollution in the ground water which is definately dangerous and causing cancer. Cry about all the leaking abandoned residental oil tanks or the severely polluted ex military base in N. Bellmore. Stop listening to all the alarmists and get informed on real issues.

There have been MANY studies showing that there is no link between cell phone waves and health risks. The microwave in your kitchen is more powerful. These people are freakin' idiots. One woman quoted in the article said "put the antennae in a remote area." How would putting them in a remote area benefit the people who aren't getting reception? I hate people.

1 You don't stand in front of your microwave 24/7. There is SIGNIFICANT evidence that these antennas are harmful, especially when you live right near them & are subjected to continous exposure. Bethpage has a huge industrial complex in it that is not that far away from the location - but further removed from our schools! There is no reason to put these near residents & schools when there are alternatives. I cannot help you if you wish to be ignorant, but those of us who aren't naive know better. I understand the need for technology, I just know that there are better choices that could be made. |
|
No, you can't put them somewhere else, that's the whole point. They need to be in this specific area to maintain cell phone service, otherwise what's the point? I don't understand the argument here. Dozens of studies have shown no health risks, these towers are camouflaged as much as possible, and they are necessary to receive cell service. This woman either needs a job or a hobby because she's wasting her time throwing acorns at a locomotive. |
|
Please...So were high tension wires-not. No one could EVER replicate one single study showing any health dangers. But I'm sure you protest against the fire department sirens in your town too. Right. Their pagers need these towers to work too. |
|
What evidence? There is none. No one sits in these buildings 24/7 either. They are also not 3 feet away but hundreds of feet. People make the same complaints about better technology for fire dept sirens. Well towers are the better technology. Then ambulance and fire can use pagers and cell phones. |
