Sisters toss a business dream amid salad greens

With an economy hobbled by mortgage-related and other problems, many people are concerned about keeping jobs rather than starting new businesses.

The headline makes no sense. Toss usually means just that. You seem to be saying that there is no hope for their dream.

I agree. I thought they were getting rid of the business.

"Toss" is a word play a la "tossed salad".

I agree with Lauren. Salad bars are an excellent way to catch some great recently unknown third-world disease.

The importation of third-world produce has folks dropping from coast to coast.

Pass the tomatoes please.

I'd love to franchise a business the way SaladWorks has. Opens new revenue streams plus puts people in business. No wonder its so popular. I wish the sisters a lot of luck.

I've eaten at several Saladworks stores in NJ and LOVE their product. I've been waiting a long time for a Saladworks to open up in NY.

BTW: the article incorrectly stated that the store was a salad bar. It is not. All the food is in a glass salad case and the employees mix and prepare the salad fresh for each customer.

I wish them luck, but I think they may have a better chance at success selling Amway than salads.

I also frequent Saladworks and it's not even close to a "salad bar". You create a salad and it is tossed for you in the back. This concept is going to be huge in NY!

I lived in Philly for a few years and this is a great restaurant that we need in NY. Don't knock it 'till you try it. They are going to do great!

Isn't this the same type of thing Pro Portion does? We have (had more but a lot of them closed) one on Long Island already in Stony Brook.

I shop at The Source during my lunch hour all the time, and I'm thrilled that there will be another healthy fast food choice in the food court.

I'm sure Pro Portions is great too, but I'm not driving all the way to Stonybrook for a salad with today's gas prices!

I wish these sisters lots of luck in their new endeavor.

"Concept"? "Huge in New York"? What? do you think Long Island is some
rural hill billy town? Go in to any deli, bagel shop in Huntington practically all food service stores have a some sort of CHOPPED SALADS. Over priced and over chopped!

I'm not 100% sure but there must have been local shops serving hamburgers and coffee before McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts came to town. And last I checked, they are doing pretty well.:)

I do think that this concept will do very well in NY/LI. Sure you can find salads pretty much everywhere, but there simply is no Franchise focused on this. These other places add salads to there menus to meet a demand, but they do not live and breath Salads like this franchise does.

And whether we like it or not, they a coming to NY in a big way. Last I saw they are building a store in downtown Manhattan and plan on having 50 stores in NY/LI in the next 5 years.

I'll have Chicken Ceasar please,.... dressing on the side!
