For want of a swing set ...

At the corner of 16th Avenue and Genoe Street in Bethlehem lie lots owned by developers who want to build homes there .. and beyond them the wooded Stratford Park, which the developers have claimed also ...

can't say i blame the residents not wanting those 6 homes built on a 100 x 200 foot lot. they're mostly single family homes in that area and this sure sounds like condo's...the fancy and expensive name for a row house...or worse yet,,,the builder using them as RENTAL units !

Wait for the "section 8 allowed" sign to go up... Then we can have immigrants from Newark, NYC, or even Allentown's finer sections move in and create a budding crime zone. Call it little Allentown...

I'm not so sure that the bumpkins in Betlum city hall will outmaneuver the developers. If this was the Mt. Airy neighborhood you can daamn well be sure that pressure would be applied by the well heeled and well connected.

Bethlehem has always been pretty anal when it comes to zoning, especially when the common folk are complaining. Grease those skids and things sure do change... Let's see what happens here.

Green Space? Pssshawww! The city wants TAXABLE SPACE!

I'm waiting for the land next to NW LL to be challenged for development next...there's lots of land at Lehigh LL, why not there? Uh oh, the well heeled rule applies.

Do we want to become another NJ where every square inch is a building?
Shoot all the developers or let them build these crappy houses near THEIR homes.

well here's a little more,,,seems the developer is one Dominic Villani (a teacher tie into BASD) and the City solicitor is John Spirk (another BASD teacher tie in)....so as has happened in the past between these 2...i'd get ready for some ground breaking in the next few months

Bethlehem has done a much better job than Easton and Allentown in maintaining quality of life issues. This includes keeping a handle on the drug trade, gangs, and crime. Hopefully, decision makers in the City of Bethlehem will continue to keep a handle on zoning and quality of life issues. Any lapse in attention to the issues will result in Bethlehem becoming the third trash heap in the Lehigh Valley.

I certainly agree with you there. The casiono will bring nothing but trouble and it will make outsiders richer. Nothing but trouble.

My brother and I grew up in the corner home that backs to that field, played there as children and appreciate the greenspace as adults. Our parents lived in that house for 54 years and my mother still lives there today. I live in Montgomery Village, Maryland and we had a similar situation: the golf course that runs through Montgomery Village was sold to developers and they planned to build condos, townhomes and single family homes on the property. The Village residents came together and fought the sale, ultimately won and ran the developers out on a rail! NO SALE!!! I expect nothing less of the residents of Bethlehem. Someday my brother and I will own the family home and we don't want to look out from the backyard and see real estate!
