I would say that if an organization had to run without compitent proffessionals and if member believed they could just take what they wanted, they do become a threat to the surrounding communities.

The whole belief that one has to have done drugs in order to provide quality care is B.S. Hmmmm...If I had cancer and the choice between two doctors, one of whom had cancer, but a lousy record, the other who never had cancer but a great cure rate, who would I go to? Hogar Crea is a scam, it has been from the beginning and very few people make it. Close it up and let the junkies do their time in jail, if that doesn't change them, nothing will.

They could always go to Alcoholics Anonymous, which has a proven record of recovery for many years now...

I happen to somewhat agree with the statement, "If you didn't have a drug problem, you can't possibly help."

I agree with it on the basis of treatment. Kooper, if you have two cancer doctors who are of identical ratings, yet one is a cancer survivor, I would go to the survivor every single time.

With that being said, I don't agree with the "If you didn't have a drug problem, you can't possibly help" on the basis of running the facility. There are so many different issue that have to be dealt with in running a facility like that. Most people do not know those issues, are not educated in those issues and are not experienced enough to handle those issues.

If you want better care or you have issues with the treatment plan, then fine. If you have issues with the way the place is being run, be careful what you wish for.

I’m kind of curious. While shopping at Giant Foods on Union Blvd, I was behind three Hogar Crea members who where buying Ice, candy and gum and paying with an ACCESS card. Does belonging to Hogar Crea automatically let you get one of these ACCESS Cards, if so sign me up. If I can pay for my food with an ACCESS Card like the three of them did, then I could go out and buy me a pair of those $150.00 Sneakers and Expensive Clothes the three of them were wearing and maybe even some of the gold chains they had on. How the HELL does that make any sense?

remember they are "in treatment" which does not mean they are not doing / selling drugs just "trying" to find out how to stop?!? Also why is anyone shocked that a bunch of junkies are creating all this drama and blaming "the man"? Isnt that what junkies do?

It would be interesting to see how Hogar Crea's success rate compares to competently managed drug treatment centers. I've always suspected this place was lining someone or several peoples pockets.

I checked out Hogar Crea LV financial statements on guidestar and here's what I find out. The organization had over $700k in revenue in 2007 and more than $250 went to general and administrative expenses. To be considered well managed nonprofit organizations should spend at leastt 90% of their revenue on program expenses. One thing that stood out to me on their financial statements was that they paid over $25,000 in 2007 for telephone?

Correction to the above. It should read $250K. Not $250.

Wow, so the one protester is claiming that being director of Hogar Crea is the first job in history where previous drug use is a REQUIREMENT.

And, its good to see all these drug addicts and drunks have all this free time run these protests. Guess they didnt get jobs yet, huh.

I've always been skeptical of this group. It is almost like a cult. Im tired of them running around selling candy, cake, and garbage bags. Time for these people to get real treatment. I even heard allegations that some people pretend they are drug addicts to get the free housing and some cash incentives at the end of the program. Scam, scam, scam!

That was my thought exactly when they had a booth last year selling kebabs at Musikfest. I would starve before I bought food from that stand.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Scorpio

If you haven't seen certain people during the past few days, how about inviting them over for a drink or a meal? You're feeling sociable and will enjoy doing some light entertaining although you'll draw the line at anything too strenuous. It's a lovely day for being in familiar surroundings with some familiar faces, even if all you do is flop on the sofa.
