Every Veteran's Day I see the photos of these wonderful veterans. Their hats are a testament to their proud service, and they hold so many memories inside. I recently met a vet who had just returned from Washington DC on an "Honor Flight". I was so touched at his emotion and his excitement at having seen the WW2 Memorial. We can't do enough for these men, and women, who gave so selflessly for our Country. Bless each one of them!

Every US war, except arguably the War of 1812, was hardly about defending our country. They were all about profit and nothing else.

I would have come had the media made it known, but they didn't. Shame on them for not honoring the brave. I think it would have been appropriate for the Chico ER to do a story a day before the event.

Joe halfwit makes ignorance an art form when it comes to U.S. history. Don't they require history classes to get your G.E.D anymore?

I am so glad I went to this event and took my two young boys. It was wonderful to see so many folks present to honor our veterans! All of the speakers touched my heart and the music was fabulous. The piece "Homeland" sung by the Chico Children's Chorus was very appropriate and the Chico Community Band is always a thrill to hear. Thank you to everyone involved with organizing such a wonderful, memorable event.

Was Larry Wahl the only member of our city council there? As the rest of them are all government employees they all had the day off paid except Wahl who owns a business. Couldn't they take some time from their freebie day off to honor our vets?
Guess not.

This is a great Chico tradition. The children's choir and community band really tie the generations together well. The article should have noted that it was standing room only!

I look forward to next year!

You are a friggin' WHINER!

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WENT TO THIS!!! There are plenty of things to knock the ER about, but this isn't one of them. SHAME ON YOU for PRETENDING like you would've gone to this event if the ER had printed an article the day before the event. YOU KNEW IT WAS VETERAN'S DAY...If you truly cared as much as you pretend to with your postings, YOU WOULD'VE SOUGHT OUT THIS EVENT or an event like it.

Dear Chico City Council
Please do not approve any addition to the horrible glorification of war that is in the city plaza. It is an extreme eyesore and embarrases me when people come to visit.
I'm not against honoring veterans, but this is the wrong place to do it. Everybody who is promoting this memorial should spend their energy helping make sure that veterans get the medical benefits they deserve. That is way more important.

You "Dude" must be one of the eye-sore worthless stoner hippies that hang out downtown bumming and loafing. I guess you would not want to honor those who gave you freedom. Looser, go move to Europe, or better, Cuba.

I am a full time employee of a downtown business who also spends a lot of money downtown. The veterans of the so-called war on terror have done nothing to give me freedom. They have much more to do with our freedoms vanishing.

You seem to be more into insulting people you know nothing about than helping our veterans in the way they really need help: by promoting that they get good medical benefits.

I have a problem because you act like a patriot the day after the fact and then blame the lowly ER? Yeah...I have a problem. With people like you who can't accept responsibility.

Right on DD! I own a business which employs some of Butte County's stoner children and I too find these memorials disgusting. As a taxpaying American I refuse to glorify the rape and pillage of the Constitution by the Bush administration. The alleged "War on Terror" is nothing but a republican talking point and marketing ploy. George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are all war criminals and profiteers that should be given a good fair trial and sent to live out all of their days in Leavenworth Prison.

Chico City Council: Do not add to the atrocity that is the war memorial in the plaza. It's hideous enough already. It is a complete embarrassment to your city. Get control of your streets and all of your criminals before you waste more money on something so stupid as a memorial to the Bush administration's biggest boondoggle.

showing the disrespect for their memorial as you are doing is not respecting them. Promoting Socialism via healthcare is promoting the ideology they fight and protect us against.

I'm not talking about socialism, I'm referring to the regular medical benefits our servicemen deserve and are promised, but then are so often denied. This is way more important than some ugly memorial.

Hopefully no taxpayer dollars go into it. As far as I know, the existing monstrosity was paid for privately by individuals and businesses. I took note of who contributed, and have avoided those businesses. I used to spend money at Papa Murphy's once or twice a month, but I haven't since then.

You must be a stoner. You make no sense. If the memorial was paid for with private funds, why are you whining, dissing, and dishonoring our military men and women?

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Scorpio

If you haven't seen certain people during the past few days, how about inviting them over for a drink or a meal? You're feeling sociable and will enjoy doing some light entertaining although you'll draw the line at anything too strenuous. It's a lovely day for being in familiar surroundings with some familiar faces, even if all you do is flop on the sofa.
