Body of Army Cpl. Karen N. Clifton makes final journey home to Mount Zion

Full story: Herald & Review

I've been to several of these. Being a parent that had a daughter over there, I can't imagine what they are going through. In solemn silence, seven soldiers wearing black trench coats against the drizzle marched a few steps forward to slide the flag-draped casket out of the chartered jet and onto a platform at the plane's door. via Herald & Review

I was a member of the Army funeral detail that laid Cpl. Karen Clifton to rest. A sad day, but what a blessing it was to see the community support from MT. Zion. To see the streets lined with people all with flags waving, crying... I cant think of the right words to say but it is an HONOR to serve. Thank you Mount Zion!
Rest in Peace Karen.

Thank you Chris for your moving comments. I couldn't be there, but have read the articles and looked carefully at the photos. Military honors are impressive, solumn, and sobering. A fitting final tribute to a patriot who gave all. Freedom isn'[t free; it doesn't come by magic; we enjoy our freedoms because of the service and sacrifice of young men and women throughout our history. CPL Clifton rest in peace. Chris thank you and your fellow soldiers for their service! Vietnam vet

Poor Murat, your hate and anger must be burning you alive. But we honor our fallen here, and we will not give in to your type. My prayers are with Cpl. Clifton's family. Your daughter death will not be forgotten by her nation.

SPC Clifton.. Karen Nicole was only 22 years old. I doubt she ever killed anyone. As an MP she was probably just pulling guard duty when she was killed.

Many of us join the military for the education benefits, some for patriotic reasons, and some as a way to bring stability to our lives and provide for the welfare of our families.

I've a son Karen's age. I pray that he should never have to put his life in harms way the way that Karen did. And I'm deeply sorry that her family had to suffer that loss.

Whether or not you agree with the war, you should always greave the loss of life regardless of whose life it is. If I should get deployed, I hope I never have to apply the skills I've learned to the extent that I have to take another's life. And I will greave that death too.

TO SGT R:

As a matter of fact she was conducting a cordon security detail at the scene of a Bradley which was hit by a complex IED killing 5 soldiers. She was just as much a combat arms soldier as any infantry soldier in Iraq. I personally worked with her and we worked 6 to 7 days every week OUTSIDE THE WIRE for a minimum of 7 hours a day. She is a true hero and anyone that tries to minimize her death because of her MOS should be ashamed of themself!

I went to basic training with karen- and was my room mate in Baghdad. She was a great friend and my hero. TO SGT R: i think it would be your best of interest to read the newspaper and understand just how much she contributed to the Army. Doesnt matter what she did, and some will never know, it doesnt matter what MOS we have... point is she is an american who's life was taken in a time of war. Respect that!- Karen.. i miss you more every day. Your aunt came to my wedding in florida. i know i never met your aunt kathy before- but you told me so much about her and how she close to you... so inviting her was my honor. I miss you so much - i know u are with the angels above. God Rest your Soul... UGLY PLATOON FOREVER!

When I read of a Trooper KIA it is a sad thing. From my little neighborhood we had 7 of us go to Nam. 4 were KIA and 3 came home. Dave, my Dad and I.
All I ask you (unlike my neighborhood) is please stand by the family of the fallen. Both now and in the future. The will need support.
It can be as simple as cooking them a pie, cutting their lawn what ever.
Our prayers are for Cpl. Clifton, her family and her fellow Soldiers.
I salute your community in honoring this fallen Patriot. You are America at its best!
Hoooaaaah!

As Red Skelton would say "And may God bless".

Her worthless life was justifiably snuffed out by patriots defending their families and country.
She brought shame on the U.S. and the sooner this dishonorable piece of filth is forgotten the better.
These "patriots", as you so like to call them, are the ones who terrorize the Iraqi people with kidnappings and violence. The vast majority of the Iraqis have been realizing for quite a while that it is the U.S. led coalition troops who truly care for them and want them to have a better life.

icedtea4me POST #14

Great retort.

Off subject.. I lived on Cerny for many years.
Around the corner was Wayne Brady. Bob Manas lived down the street.
How bad are the floods affecting you? Did they ever finish the Ledgends golf center?
I looked at a satellite picture of the old house
man the trees have really grown.

I know my location shows Eureka, MO but I live in the city of St. Louis. The Legends golf course has been completed.

As for the flooding, I haven't been affected by it.

OK I remember your earlier post.
Thanks for the Legends link.
Having worked on Goodfellow and the 70?(been a while) sometimes the flooding in Valley Park would cause a lot of problems. And of course the water at the arch would be up to the bottom steps.
The Queen would be floating high. That was the only floating McDonalds I have ever seen.
All the best to you and yours.

I also went to basic with her at Ft. Leonard Wood... She was my battle buddy & slept in the bunk next to me. She was a great friend, always smiling and positive... Even when she got a hell of a bruise on her hip from a Humvee crash (she was in the turret)... She will be missed and from viewing the photos of the funeral... She got what she deserved.. the rememberance of being a hometown hero... Wolfpack Forever!
