I think the governor should lighten the life sentence of Paula Sims.
I remember looking at Paula during her trial and thinking her lawyer was not very good at representing her. I felt sorry for her
and believe she was going through post partum suffering.

Anyone who can take the life of an innocent child, and then "hide" the body shouldn't have their sentence shortened. Shame on her.

Paula Sims is now asking the Governor for clemency based on post-partum depression. While this is a true affliction for some women, I do not personally believe that Paula Sims suffered from it. She concocted an elaborate story when she killed her baby, Lorelei, and maintained that she was innocent long after. There was no remorse other than for her own plight. Once her hormones were back to normal, she did not then go to the authorities and say "omg, I did this" "I don't know what came over me." She went on to have a son, who thrived, and another daughter, whom she also murdered. She decided to do her own form of birth control. Keep the boy, get rid of the girls. Other people have received the death penalty for less and in her case, that should have been the penalty. Keep her where she is and I hope she is miserable.

She wants, she wants, she wants. Who really care what she wants? She didn't care about the wants or needs of her children.

No crime is as hideous of that that against children. To the point made above, why was the son spared and the girls not? Was she crazy? Absolutely - anyone who could do such an act has to be - however, this does not excuse her behavior. Regardless of the circumstances she should pay for her crimes. What benefit does she or society gain by granting her absolution from her acts? I feel most sorry fot the son, who is now 18, what heritage to carry around. God bless him and may his sisters be looking out for him from heaven above.

at least andrea yates had the guts to admit what she had done to her poor children. paula sims didn't admit what she had done until after she was convicted of murder.

she thought about killing her son before. who to say she wouldn't try again. is it fair for him to be afraid to look over his shoulder the rest of his life. please pray that she does NOT get clemency.

As a mother myself, I don't understand how one can take the life of something so innocent and precious. To think that she expects clemency is so absurd. But in her defense, she should not be sitting in that jail alone. Her husband should also be in there. You can not tell me he did not know a thing about any of the murders. Groshong may have gotten him off but he will have to answer to God one day. I sure hope he can sleep at night.

i don't believe she ever suffered from PPD. she should be locked up until her childbearing days are behind her and there's no chance of her ever, EVER breeding again. i feel the worst for her son -- and amen to Lynnette's comment.

her husband should be shut down as well. i hate to think of him out there making babies.

i think of all the people that can't have babies and would be the best parents, and then people like the Sim's breeding like rabbits, and it makes me want to pull my hair out.

My name is Randy Sims and I am the biological son of Paula Sims. To those of you that think my father should be in prison as well, shame on you. You are spouting your mouths off on things you don't understand. There can be no doubt that he is innocent for those that know him and have seen him break down in tears whenever my sister's are discussed. The poor man has been through hell and how dare you condemn him like this! I love him very much. He has been a wonderful father to me.

Groshong didn't get him off, if you knew anything about the case you would know that. The DA never tried my dad with a damn thing. Groshong was a snake who pretended to be on the sides of both my dad and Paula but in reality he knew she was guilty from day one and let my dad think she was innocent. My dad is only guilty of trusting his own spouse. When she said she didn't do it he believed her. Don't you dare judge him for things he didn't do!

As for the clemency hearing, I was going to attend but it's a long drive from my home in Edwardsville and I don't want my picture to be on the front page of the newspapers. Luckily, they are going to read a statement I wrote during the hearing. Her hearing is on Monday, so please pray they keep her locked up forever.

If any of you wish to discuss this further I can be reached at rsims@lcmail.lc.edu (my college email).

I THINK PAULA SIMS SHOULD STAY IN PRISON FOR LIFE, SHE MIGHT OF SERVE 15 YEARS FOR THE MURDER OF HER BABIES, BUT SHE SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT, BECAUSE ONCE YOU ARE A MURDER YOU ALWAYS WILL BE A MURDER.

please try to understand, Paula was seriously effected by PPP not PPD, psychosis is a much more serious and horrifying disease. There are several experts who agree she was suffering!
I know Paula well, and she has nothing but remorse for what happened. It was not her decision to hurt the girls and not Randy, it was the disease, and although I am not blaming her ex, he did not help her when she most needed it.
Paula did not just come up with this defense to try and ride along with the Andrea Yates trial, she was diagnosed in 1991 as suffering from PPP at the time of the incidents.
It is time to let Paula out of prison and let her move on with her life. She no longer can have children, nor does she want to...let her go!

it's not a "disease" to kill babies...it's a CRIME. let her go and do what? what happens if she's around other people's babies? what's to stop her from doing this to someone else? if she has a "disease" how do we know she's "cured"? would you leave YOUR baby with her?

she'll never feel bad enough to justify the death of the innocent.

yes, I would leave my child with her...no worries!!
Postpartum psychosis IS A DISEASE!! It is in the DSM-IV. this is not something the compells her to kill all children! It was a bioglogical and chemical imbalance which caused hallucinations and paranoid behavior.
There is a clear difference between evil people who kill for personal gain and sick people who kill because of their illness. Paula was sick, she was diagnosed way back in 1991.

How about you have your entire life ruined by someone and then tell me they should be let go! Until then, you have no place to talk!

This is what's wrong with the world. We place the blame on others, bogus mental illnesses, and upbringing. Never ourselves. It's always someone else's fault.

Paula is a murderer and should be punished. Period. That's it. I realize I am taking this personally, but I would feel the same about any other murderer. OJ, Scott Peterson, Jeff Dohmer, whoever. They all deserve to be punished, regardless.

If you wish to discuss this further, LMR, you are welcome to email me at rsims@lcmail.lc.edu

P.S.

And what most infuriates me is your allegation that my dad is somehow at fault. What was he supposed to have done? He supported her when he thought she was innocent, was he supposed to continue to support her after he found out she was evil?

i repeat, killing babies is a CRIME. if she was diagnosed in 1991, evidently she must have had the option of some kind of treatment.

nobody who kills another human being is in their "right" mind, no matter what the motivation. does this mean anyone who claims a "disease" can commit murder and then walk away with impunity?

what about those poor babies with no defense? who speaks for them?

you're as sick as she is.

While we all have very strong opinions about wrongs done to children, and in particular this case, it needs to be noted that simply skimming over these messages makes it obvious that there is a surviving child that is being tortured by this new publicity. I do believe in public debate over serious issues, but there is something to be said for some sensitivity to the family...

Paula did have treatment, and has ongoing treatment, Paula is not asking to walk away with no regard for anything that ever happened! She is simply asking to move on to a new chapter in her life.
We as a society punish the sick when we should help them. There is a little bit of hope in the Andrea Yates trial.
I place no blame on anyone except Paula, nor does she, she has taken full responsibility for what has happened.
This disease is the same disease that Brooke Shields suffered from, it is devastating and horrible, why punish when we could help?
