This is going to ruin the beautiful landscape that the people of Clarke have kept unspoiled.
HUGE towers will be OUR views. There is 2 parts to this plan one is the PATH going through the top part of Clarke the 2nd is called the TRAIL and its basically going through are entire town. Please take a look at this website, get informed. There is maps showing where this PATH and TRAIL go. This is not only going to ruin OUR area but the places we use for recreation, Harpers ferry and certain points along the river. Lets fight this TOGETHER. Please sign the petition. This is OUR town WE have a say! http://www.notopath.org/index.php I'd like to know what our Mayor has to say about this? For or against? Theres little to no cover on this any information would be apperciated. Thank you |

Not voicing your opinions makes people believe you dont have one or DONT care. Please get involved. I just found out about this, I had to google PATH after seeing all the signs in WV. No excuse but I'm rather new here, almost a year. I intend to live the rest of my life here without hearing the loud humming & crackling NOISES from POWERLINES or for them to be in my view anywhere in this area. News coverage has been lacking. |
||||
|
I agree that this story has had little to know news coverage.
I thought this PATH was only going through WV. I guess we are not being very well informed by our town officials. |
||||
|
Is everyone in this town clueless?
Could it be that our town officials just dont care? |
||||
|
Have there been any lawsuits against this proposed powerline? Has it been totally approved at this time or does the public still have time to act? It is amazing how little has been in the news (anywhere}. Where are the journalists when you need them?
|

The trail was approved before I moved here. It seems to me our officials did NOTHING to stop it.
The Path I cant seem to find out what our town officials are doing to stop it. Is Clarke County ignoring this, letting other Countys fight alone. While at the Jefferson County Fair, I met the wonderful people from STOP PATH. I saw maps with HUGE powerlines going through acres of these peoples property. Now if this one of us wouldnt we want people backing us up?? Lets help support STOP PATH even if our town officials are DOING NOTHING!!! |

PJM Interconnection called for "more powerlines" because of the so called "energy crisis" and possible future NERC violations by PJM.
In response to this, Allegheny Energy and it's subsidiary (Allegheny Power) teamed up with American Electric Power to propose the PATH project. PATH stands for the Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline. PJM approved the project. PATH (Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline) proposes to run a 765 kv high voltage transmission line through 280 miles of rural West Virginia land (mostly through private property). In some places the proposal calls for two 500 kv lines. American Electric Power has been sued by California, Connecticut, Iowa, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin, and the City of New York for being a global warming polluter (carbon dioxide emissions). New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, have also previously announced plans to sue Allegheny Energy’s for violation of the Clean Air Act (again, because of coal plants and emissions). Allegheny Energy owned one of the dirtiest coal plants in the nation. The Northeast doesnt want this, so why are we being lied to?? |

PATH will serve to run cheap and dirty electricity to the northern states. WV receives none of this electricity but we will pay for it in our energy bills and by giving up our land.
The states that PATH will run electricity to do not even want the line. They want to focus on renewable energy or cleaner energy sources because they are downwind of West Virginia and do not want the coal emissions. PATH is simply a scheme for Allegheny Power and American Electric to rip private land from the hands of rural West Virginians under the disguise of "benefiting the nation" so that they can increase revenue. TrAIL and PATH are ploys for Allegheny Power to make easy money on nonrenewable energy at the expense of West Virginia citizens, while the rest of the nation explores and focuses on renewable energy. West Virginia gets 99 percent of electricity from our own coal mines. West Virginia directly uses the energy produced from our coal mines. PATH does not benefit WV. It takes OUR coal to give cheap electricity to other states. West Virginia Citizens will have to PAY for this financially and by giving up land. The other states will pay for this as well because PATH will increase coal emissions that everyone else will have to breathe. It affects everyone. The Obama Administration is a supporter of renewable energy. PATH is a step backward. It does not focus on renewable energy..it will be used for coal. Read this site to see how rural country people will be screwed by big business and how the landscape will be raped and permanently scarred. The scenic beauty is perhaps the only thing that West Virginia can claim. Big business has decided to take it away. |

New Haven
United Illuminating Makes Presentation On Small Business Energy Advantage Program "The purpose of the presentation was to identify the fact that we offer a program designed to help customers manage their energy usage and cost simultaneously," O'Connor said. "The SBEA Program is a tool to help small and mid-size businesses help themselves stay in business." Since 2000, the Small Business Program in UI's territory has saved over 810 million lifetime kilowatt hours which equates to avoiding 439,000 tons of carbon dioxide, a statistic that was well received at the event. This is just more proof that the Northeast doesnt need PATH. Full story: http://www.courant.com/community/hc-community... |

Marylandʼs Energy Future at Risk
Six Questions About the PATH Transmission Line Proposal. The Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline (PATH) is a joint venture of the nationʼs largest coal-fired utilities and PJM Interconnection.1 PATH is a high-voltage line that will run for 275 miles from the John Amos coal-fired power plan in West Virginia to Frederick County, Maryland.2 The Maryland Public Service Commission must ask tough questions about the need for PATH.3 1. Does PATH threaten Maryland clean-energy jobs? PATHʼs construction will be subsidized by a controversial incentive rate system that makes it cheaper to bring dirty power from distant plants and could undercut clean, local energy and improved efficiency.4 2. Will PATH erase all of Marylandʼs progress on global warming? Thanks to the stateʼs concerned citizens and responsive leaders, Maryland has become a leader on fighting global warming that threatens our childrenʼs future.5 These hard-won gains will be swamped by subsidized coal-fired power transmitted by PATH.6 3. Will PATH bring more air pollution in Maryland? Our state lies downwind of the coalfired generators to be served by PATH. If they burn more coal, we get more of the emissions: nitrous oxide, sulphur dioxide, and toxic mercury --- in addition to globalwarming- causing carbon dioxide.7 4. Will PATH increase the risk of cascading blackouts? The greater the distance between generation and consumption -- as with PATH -- the harder it is to manage grid stability in the event of a power disruption. Improved efficiency and local generation mean more security and a more stable grid.8 5. Does PATH waste resources? PJMʼs distorted planning process over-emphasizes costly transmission and ignores the benefits of local generation and improved efficiency which are cheaper, quicker, cleaner and more reliable. PATH is a 275-mile extension cord tied to obsolete and dirty coal generation.9 6. Will PATH increase electric rates for Maryland consumers? PATH means big profits for the out-of-state corporate interests who dominate PJM Interconnection, but wonʼt help Maryland rate-payers. PJM controls the interstate market for electricity trading and can ignore Maryland voters.(In 2008, Maryland joined 3 other states in a federal complaint alleging $12 billion in unjust and unreasonable overcharges by PJM.)10 For a better energy future, Maryland needs improved efficiency followed by more local clean energy. Our economy will be stronger, our air cleaner and our future more secure. Marylandʼs Energy Future at Risk Maryland Energy Report August 26, 2009 www.MarylandEnergyReport.org |

TODAY!!! Rain or shine, we have a demonstration! Gov. Manchin is returning to Jefferson County, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new headquarters for the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Since it's also the first day of the events commemorating John Brown's Raid, there is likely to be many more media representatives on hand. PLEASE show up and participate! There's strength in numbers! And we have an eyecatching gimmick that makes a visual connection to "scalped mountains and clear-cut forests." DETAILS Where: The meadow at the intersection of Route 340 and Washington Street (the stoplight on Harpers Ferry Hill), in front of the new CVB facility (the cedar home). When: Start arriving between 3:30 and 4 p.m.- the governor's ceremony is supposed to be at 4:30. If you can't get there until after 4, come anyhow; the governor runs late! What: Bring your signs, lawn chairs if you want, and YOUR ENTHUSIASM!
