Zap wrote: Maybe I can help. About 20 years ago I was using two hummer feeders, there was always a fight over them, over the years there has been a decline here in this area of TN. I remember one year the storms in the Gulf was blamed for the loss of a lot of them. the decline has been steady over the years. At one time there would be hummers here by the 15 th of Apr every year even when there was just a few here. I put out a feeder every year even though there is only a seldom seen hummer. They arrived in May this year. So far there was a female a few days back & yesterday I saw a little male. Has any body else seen this decline in their area? Last year there where too many to count. this year only three so far. and they where late in arriving. Im watching one at the feeder outside the window at this very moment.

Old Army wrote: Can't speak to a trend on the hummingbirds, only been feeding them two years. Last year think there were two, this year four. Don't know if they are playing or fighting but they sure get after each other. One feeder hanging on the front porch and one in a maple tree. Was sitting on the back porch and one of the little buggers flew within a foot of my face, gave me a long look then took off. Guess he figured I wasn't sweet or maybe checking out his reflection in my glasses. Hey Army. I like the little guys. It's odd how they study things. We put up some sun catchers (multiple color) on the sliding glass door to tell other birds not to fly into it. Every year some little hummer will come & hover around them just to study the colors I guess. during the storms several years back the wind tore down some trees & limbs around the farn. I found a hummer nest in one. interesting little nest, of course I have seen them before, but its always a marvel when I find one.

I had friends that live along the gulf, they said there were hundreds of people that put out hummer feeders there. after the long flight over water the little guys would stop for a few days & tank up before moving north. Same thing in the fall for their flight back. Sam said that there was years when the storms were getting worse & would kill hundreds of them out at sea.. The global warming will probablly incease the storm activity there. Sam is gone but I hope the residents are still feeding the hummers as the cross.

The BBC News Front Page out of UK published an article intitled "Arctic melt releases ancient methane" you need to get on up there. Not every day you get to smell a dinosaur fart.

Iran has a 1 day army maneuver. I can't believe it takes them all day to find a place to hide.

It's a sign of the end times. The lords judgement is upon us. Soon the seven angels shall sound the seven trumpets and only those of us that are pure (Jewish) will be called home. Just teasing. Nobody's going to heaven. it's all a lie. But sorry about the dead birds!

looks From 57 to 27, that's pretty good. I got a formula that turns 70 into 15, of course I have to shave my chest.

OK, I really don't have a chest, but if I did I would have to shave it.

Summer is over and winter is here. It snowed at 8 thousand feet a few days ago and the wind blew all the cherries off the trees. So much for iradic weather. Thats right, black top the earth. Chicken breast are in demand and so they cost 13 bucks for five breast. The thighs are still 2 bucks for more than enough. And Obama says we need more growth, more people to flood the United States. It now cost 25 bucks to park at the beach because of over crowding. And the mountains are no longer free to visit. One needs an adventure pass for 10 bucks now. Russia and China say hands off Syria. Israel wants to nuke Iran and our boys are comming home to no jobs. They have been replaced by illegal alien cheap labor slaves that can be owned and whipped. Colon Powell will not endorse Obama, but he will hire illegal aliens to work on his house just like Romney. They can't afford to hire skilled educated Americans. Our Country is in a mess. Good nite.

Suffering from empty nest syndrome here. Last of the four young wrens graduated from flight training and my Chickadee is going back to work after another surgery. We need rain.

sounds like your wife has had some problems. Sorry to hear it, my prayers to you both. Back to work sounds good though. Rain, yeah I could use some too. Picked up 16 guineas at the post office this morning, they are doing OK, they look healthy & are very active, not to mention expensive. Now if I can get them big enough to protect themselves from snakes & all the other predators out there. I parked them in the garage for the next 5 weeks. I've had power outages for the last 2 days, short oes not much to worry abt. I can't afford to have a long outage, don't know how to keep them warm.

I just had deer burger for lunch. A doe got hit by a car and I processed her. She had a fawn. a little buck. Ive been bottle feeding him and he is doing Ok. But its hard to raise a bottle fed little deer, sheep or goat. Ya gotta feed them just a small amount every few hours just like a human baby. Im enjoying this cool weather. I know its off topic bet be gotts get to 10,000 post somehow!
