What happened to Tabor Farm near Sodus? I tried to find it recently and couldn't locate it. It's been many years since I was there.

Is that where they have the winery & restaurant? I used to live around that area. I've run in the "Grape Stomp" many years ago as well.

Are you talking about the Tabor Farm, that is on Tabor Rd. in Sodus, near River Rd.? A big huge white brick house built in the 1880's, with a big barn behind it?

This was a resort with a 9 hole golf course and various other amenities. I worked there one summer about 20+ years ago, and while vacationing in the area (and visiting Tabor Hill, among other wineries) I tried to find it, but couldn't. I was wondering if Rt. 31 went right through it perhaps. Thanks for the responses...

I got a response to a blog entry on Journalscape and the poster mentioned that he had gone past it some years ago and all that was left was the barn and some boarded up cottages. The swimming pool had even been filled in. I'm surprised that they didn't keep the golf course going as a small private club. It wasn't a bad 9 hole course...

We loved Tabor Farm! I remember our waitor was Gintas from Illinois. They used to ring the bell for meals and had shuffleboard, etc.. We've been trying to plan a family reunion and thought it would be the ideal spot. Sorry to hear it is no longer around.

I worked there one summer in the early 70's. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The resort was a fun place with regular customers coming back year after year.

A bit of trivia: The owner at the time I worked there was Valdas Adamkus, who is now president of Lithuania.(truly a man of great character and integrity).

There was a fellow named Vytas there the year before I was there, he was a friend of my friend (Linas), and I think he was lifeguard. But that was in the late 70's/early 80's. Mr. Adamkus's nephew also worked there the year before I was there, got to know him pretty well. I agree about Mr. Adamkus. That's who I worked for, too.

My family went there for 20 years--my girl cousins even tried to date a few of the workers. Not Vic the golf course manager :). Remember Harry with the Ripple and dredlocks? Sherry wants to know where Vidas is?

>>were you a lifeguard? <<

I wasn't a lifeguard; I worked the front desk and bussed tables in September. Vic the golf course manager was there when I was there but I don't remember a "Harry". Lenny was an assistant chef who sorta resembles the description however.

I'm not sure where the Vidas (or Vytas...not sure how he spelled his name) that I knew is today...

hi...i remember all the posters wrote about, Harry was a real character, we used to goof with him i guess was around the mid 70-s, he used to carry around this red electric guitar with i think 2 strings, it didnt play but i remember him singing to us a lot, we even talked him into performing at a guest talent show. i remember the dredlocks, im not sure what him role was on the staff.... the resort closed after 1990 and all that was left a few years back were 2 cottages in very bad shape, the cow palace, not in good shape either and an overgrown shuffleboard court....everything else flattened or filled in....really sad, i have amazing memories of the place....i remember a waitress named Beth who was a nice friend from the 70's also. One item i might mention, i have the Tabor Farm Resort entrance sign.

a couple years after it closed, the sign was just laying there near the entrance, at that time, the buildings were still standing, my cousin even got a blanket out of the cottage "Idlewild" and we were able to get into the cow palace, we ran into Vic the greenskeeper who was still keeping the grounds cut at the time and he told me Tabor FArm almost reopened in 1992 but a large crack in the pool and all the guest records being lost ended the plan. Of note, if you go onto Google Earth or Weather.com , you can see a decent overhead view of what was Tabor Farm....it was by the intersection of River Road and Cedar Road.....no buildings appear to be standing anymore and all trees were cleared from the golf course, but you can tell the course from the surrounding trees, like behind the 2nd green and to the right of the 3rd hole dogleg., and the trees between the first and second hole.

I worked at Tabor Farm as the lifeguard from 1985-87. Both of my sisters worked there as well, though we only overlapped one year. I concur with those who've stated it was a great place to work. It had a Dirty Dancing atmosphere, though we didn’t know what that meant at the time.

After Tabor closed in the early 90's, the land was purchased by the father of one of my Business School-mates. If memory serves, he demolished all of the buildings except the “Owner’s house,” which was located away from River Road and overlooked the old swimming hole.

its a shame he bought it to destroy it, obviously there seems to have been no plans for the land, youd have thought at least the golf course would have been saved....too bad it couldnt have been sold to someone else
