Decommissioning fund down $3M

Ah yes...for those of you who still delusionally think that nuclear power is cheap, wait until that bill comes due to decommission the plant and deal with the waste. Let's not forget what this industry was able to accomplish. They convinced our leaders to pay for their insurance (Price/Anderson Act) and to be responsible for the waste; the most toxic substance we've ever made and can't figure out how to safely store. That was the "good deal" we, as taxpayers, got in exchange for the industry making billions and billions of dollars. That seems fair. And to think we're having to fight to get health care for all in this nation.

We have to wake up and come to grips with the fact that what this country is about is making a handful of folks really, really rich off the backs of people who struggle every day. Not unlike the Pharohs of Egypt...without the whips.

It is the height of hiprocacy to make a big deal about the decommissioning fund when, in fact, all investments have taken a big hit. Why does not the Reformer do a piece on the grossly underfunded state retirement accounts. Teachers, police, firemen retirement accounts are all grossly underfunded. How about a piece on the retirement accounts at the reformer being under funded?

The government is spending money it does not have. This country is flat broke and over its head in credit. Entergy has a savings plan and is at the same time creating jobs and wealth in this community. Me thinks that the government could learn a few economic lessons from Entergy.

What, like budgeting $400m for a job that will cost $900m? Or skimping on maintenance in order to reward shareholders? Or refusing to say how much its product will cost Vermonters next year? Or perhaps putting a debt-laden front company between itself and its financial responsibilities?

The VT government has enough fiscal problems without imitating Entergy!
