Seasonal workers slip away

66,000 lousy visas. Sounds critical, don't you think?

Paying the extra to entice American seasonal workers never occured to them Right?

We need our low cost seasonal slaves!

So lets screw the US worker and the illegal.

Why does this not surprise me coming from the area of "Big Head Kennedy" the one person we owe a lot of this problem with "Illegal Aliens" on?? Hopefully the generations of Kennedys in politics will come to an end soon.

Students used to be the source for seasonal workers. But alass, they are familiar with US labor laws and want minimun wage and a break every four hours or so....

Also they want to be paid with a w-2 have taxes with held, be covered by workers comp, and protected by ewage and hour laws etc.

Slaves are so much easier to abuse.

Politicians like having illegal waitresses serving their lunch tables, because they file a complaint when slapped on the butt.

Ronin, you could offer American seasonal workers $20.00 an hour and you still wouldn't fill the demand. There aren't enough employable American people in the labor pool right now to pick and pack crabs all day. It's easier for Americans to sit home and collect a disability check than to go out to work.

That's what they said about the meat packing plants, then they offered a 2 dollar an hour raise, promised to hire only legal workers, and the lines to apply stretched around the block..all shifts all positions were filled... another myth ( made of preconceived stereotyping and prejudiced thinking) destroyed..

I think if they have seasonal workers here, they should have to pay them a decent wage or hire locals at a better pay. Why do the hotel, bar and restaurant owners think everyone should absorb rising costs cause they are greedy and may lose a half or 1 million in profits and maybe not be able to live their lives the way they have become accustomed to cause one of the ancestors had something to do with the founding of the town. No one cares that the common persons taxes are going up so much that they can no longer afford to live here after scratching all their life to be able to retire here. Oh maybe we should all just file for a reduction in taxes. That works for some of the "big" empolyers in OC.

Hey.. I've been in OC, MD and I've seen myself that eastern europeans are way better workers than americans. Americans go there to work and have fun - half of the week they call sick at work or just don't show up without having a reason... The business in OC will die without foreigner workers....

Speak for yourself. Ive been poor and Ive seen poor in this country and other countries too.This is about being personaly responsible and national responsible. We all have choices.There are ways to get things done without biting the hand that helps you or the hands that work for you.The employers need to absorb cost of visas, immunizations,medical quarantines and provide adequate housing for immigrant workers, if they need them be responsible for them or pay a decent wage .
