Well, dog number one killed by unhumane society. Gomez will be remembered. This dog was not people agressive. Let me repeat, Not People Agressive. He was other dog agressive. The reason Milo gets these dogs is that if they are taken to the unhumane society, they will kill them. Milo does not KILL. They take dogs and cats that, if taken to Marin unhumane society, they will be killed. Marin county is just not big enough for more that one dog and cat placement organization. Yes, Milo is guilty of taking in the "this is your last chance" type of dog or cat.

Its seems clear to many people that HMS rather have animals die than find new homes. Its a money issue. HMS has lots of money to spend and want to keep it that way! It makes me sick.

I have been involved with Milo as a volunteer for years. They are a great organization and find good adoptive homes at a fraction of the cost of what the Humane Society takes in. Marin inHumane has a reputation for killing animals who are not perfect or cute enough for adoption while Milo rescues old catsand dogs, handicapped ones and those with less than stellar behaviors. The Humane society should be offering to provide free veterinary services and facilities to Milo not trying to shut them down becuase they operate on a shoestring.

My three Milo rescues - a 15 year old Huskie abandoned at a kennl whewre my daughter worked -the Humane society said they would kill her as she was too old - Milo found her an adoptive home and with a little dental work and some arthritis meds she comfortably and happily celebrated her 17th brithday last month. An 8 year old Aussie who had been burned on his back with hot oil, no one would take him but Milo who kept him for nine months until I took him home where he lived in comfort until he died. He was not a dog to be thrown into a preschool but he was a great soul and fine with people if given space. Marble - a stray cat who came to Milo as a teenager with her four babies - the babies got adopted but because she had starved Marble would not live nicely with other cats and was known to scratch a human who tried to get too close too fast. She stayed at Milo for over two years until she became the princess of a one cat no kids family.

Give Milo more resources and they can do even more b etter!

Why isn't the Marin "Independent" Journal following up on the 19 animals that were taken from the safety of the Milo Foundation and taken to the Marin Humane Society in Novato? The previous poster said that "already one dog has been killed by MHS", a dog named Gomez. What happened? Why no public outrage? Why no follow up by all the news organizations that so quickly jumped on the story originally? And why hasn't the Marin Humane Society issued a press release patting themselves on the back for handling "Gomez"?

I miss Gomez. He was such a happy dog. He did not deserve to die.
