Just heard Thorpe will not be back next year as baseball coach , that is great news for the school because he was a terrible coach 2 out of 3 years did not even make it out of the district tournament !

FYI he was a great baseball coach and had an overall winning career. When Bock left he had a senior team that was great and when Thorpe stepped in he was left with very young players. As well as he has had several injured players and there is not much you can do about that! He is a wonderful person and great with kids- he just completed his education for principal. Hopefully the next coach can fill his shoes at being a great guy. As far as city councilman - I hope he wins in the fall election! So good luck Thorpe!

He had barely a winning record in 3 years and did not make it out of district tournament 2 out of 3 years plus treated players like crap , i heard him once tell a player that that player lost the game for him after a dropped third strike in which the catcher threw to first allowing the winning run to score from third and telling the pitcher that it was his fault they lost the game ! Also kicking buckets because he was mad and hitting players with bucket and lots of other things and very bad coaching moves unlike you would ever see another coach do .

I did not play baseball in high school , but quess what Billy Thorpe also did not play baseball in high school and my son played 4 years at the high school and started most of the time and he never had trouble with Coach Thorpe , but ask anyone and they will tell you we lost lots of games with Thorpe making stupid coaching decisions that would cost us games such as taking out starting pitchers out to early and putting in pitchers in that struggled with control and losing games that we had 5 to 7 run leads in the last inning or 2 . My son was not a pitcher !

Maybe Jeff you should have went to school to be a teacher and a coach! It does not matter who the coach is they always have to deal with idiot parents such as yourself! Thorpe may have been trying to develop more pitchers for the coming years....or who knows maybe the pitcher that was in was not feeling well or he could have had other issues.....But again......Bill Thorpe was an A1 teacher and coach! Check his baseball career. He was the head coach at Livingston Co. Won district, regional and made it to state....had a winning record at Reidland and he coached St. Mary one year as well and had good team. If you do Not have much to play with it is not his fault! Btw his team had a very good GPA so I am sure they can get far in life with academics instead of baseball. Great kids and a great coach!

but it is a major milestone to professional baseball, it helps getting you into college and getting you noticed which leads to scouts seeing you and etc. so it might be a little serious

Tell me how many athletes have become professional from MCHS, these kids play it for the love of the game, it's parents that push their kids into it, which eventually pushes the kid away from it

Kent Wallace from Reidland played professional in the minor leagues and for the Yankees in the MLB and Steve Finley from Paducah had a long career in the major leagues and i think Terry Shumpert from Paducah tilghman played in the majors and also George Wilson playes in the NFL so their is a chance for students from this area to play professional sports . I forgot Dan Langhi from Marshall Co . played in the NBA for several years. Andrew Edwards that played baseball for Marshall 3 years ago and will probably be drafted in baseball next year if he keeps throwing the baseball in the low to mid 90's so their is chance for Marshall players can go pro .

But for every kid that does make it, there are another 100 that don't make it, let the kids enjoy it, the parents are embarrassing themselves, when they treat high school sports like they are in the pros, they are kids they will make mistakes

Danny Naughton was signed after his junior at Murray State by the Mets, Scott Chambers the Dodgers, Chris Haas the Cards, Shawn Yarbourgho, the list goes on.

I don't know about his coaching ablities, but I do know Billy, and I think he's a likeable person. He's always been nice to me anyway.

Aaron Edwards that played at Marshall was drafted by the Yankees out of high school as well. Kids do get seen even if it is just a few. There needs to be a place for sports to be taken serious and it is good to have somewhere just to play for fun. School sports are usually where you take it serious. If you don't like how serious some take it or have the mindset of "It's not the MLB" then play in a rec league. But don't try and knock others down to make it somewhere you are comfortable fitting in.
