benton basketball?

now that football is pretty much over, what do you think about this years bastketball team?

hopefully better than the last few years

What do you think about Sesser in theB.I.T.? Seems people forgot about the thrashing they gave us a few years back,and they still laugh about it.Going downhill aren't we.

Sesser is the only team to score 100 points on Benton. I don't think anyone has forgotten.

Might as well invite the best team and program in county to the BIT. The people from Sesser who ran the score up are long gone.

You're right,but there obnoxious fans that still think it's funny will be there in full force. This is our tournament. We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing Sesser.I don't think its going to be any fun watching Sesser anihilate us again.

Basketball teams solid. Expect big things

expect big things? what kind of talent do they have? i heard a lot of players are not going to play this year.

From what I have heard, the only good thing about this years team will be the JV team.

Big things and Benton basketball do not belong in the same sentence. I want the days of Rich Herrin and when they used to play "Sweet Georgia Brown" when the "Runnin' Rangers" would enter the gym. I think the downfall of Benton high school basketball began when the individual community schools closed...Lincoln, Washington, Grant,Logan, etc. These schools used to compete against each other and the kids grew in sports. Not anymore. Call me nastalgic, but give me THOSE days back anytime.

sesser victory was a once in a lifetime victory.[of that magnatude] compare the records of the teams in the Bit,with Sesser, no comparison Sesser cant compete in the BIT,some time i wonder if Benton can.

beat a team by a large margin,does not mean the is still competive,15 yrs later

I don't know what the problem at the Middle School is,but it seems we have reverted back to the times when we had to hire coaches off the streets.

sesser has a great team this year. they did not lose much talent at all last year. benton is going to have their hands full all season long without seniors devon miner and austin lynch down low.

and i agree there are some problems at the middle school. after corn quit the program went down hill.

If Minor and Lynch are our hope......Minor's lazy and Lynch quit halfway through last season because of lack of play time. I'll be at every game, but no expectations - no disappointments.

As everyone knows,this team was not very good,but as for the Sesser win,it was on a night when any team could have beaten us that badly.(But most coaches would have had more respect than Metcalf.)In the days preceding the game,the coach quit,leaving the asst. coach to coach the team.The next day he decided to come back and coach.Moral was at an all time low.The poor players didn't know who their coach was.The season was,for all practical purposes,over from that day .

I will agree that Minor is lazy. Word on the street is he may come back this year. And Lynch showed great promise in his first half of the season. I don't blame him for quitting. He was 10 times the player Stevens was. Besides these two, the tallest ranger will probably be about 6 foot. They will struggle against teams like Cairo, Herrin, and Sesser.
