the solution is to close highway 9 to all motor vehicle traffic. the road should be open to pedestrians and bicycles only. for those too lazy to walk or ride a bicycle, the train should be reestablished for the purpose of mass transportation and hauling large loads.

I say we start a petition to have the booking photos of these offenders published along with the stories of their misdoings...it might make some people think twice before breaking the law if the society they are a part of can readily identify them as a criminal. Heck...some (more reputable) publications actually go so far as to list the home addresses of such miscreants.

Not holding my breath though.

Micah? Is that you?

Don't you think that should be up to the residents of the San Lorenzo Valley? Guess what the vote would be?

What do you think fire services and medical personnel would think of your idea?

What the frak?

Riding a bike in the heavy Mission Street traffic is suicide. Bikers can use King and California Streets as alternatives in the city.

The same goes for walking along Highway 9! There are too many drunken idiots driving cars and no frigging sidewalks. There is no real alternative rooad that runs parallel with most of highway 9.

We aren't gonna shoot these damned drunken drivers, even if it discourages even one more idiot from getting behind the wheel. Better do something about this "Blood Alley" or shut it down...

No one is afraid of the Justice System these days. Just like TV. Everybody will get up and walk away and all will be fine. Except that in real life, people's lives are ruined forever. They don't ever have "CLOSURE". That fancy word that everyone uses to make believe that all is OK and finished. That is such a farce. These things affect families for years and years.

Please get with it folks. If you don't think about other people at least think about your own family and what they will have to live with knowing that their insert your name was a selfish jerk and didn't care if he/she ruined many lives.

and why don't they build something useful where dominican is? maybe a hospital or a facility where they can take accident victims in our county.......... oh.....pardon me, that would make sense & this is after all....santa cruz.

I've read topix enough to understand the frequent complaint about helicopter rides to San Jose. But these injuries were so severe and the locations so close to Highlands Park that these cases surely qualify.

Because her son was buckled in, I think it's enough for the drunk mom to be charged with felony DUI, and not child endangerment. She should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for the injury she caused, but leave her child out of it.

It is long past time to get serious with drunk drivers, as Scandanavia did long ago, and remove their right to drive after the first DUI, permanently. The Swedes, Finns, Norwegians and Danes dont put up with this garbage. They have the right idea.
and God bless mothers against drunk driving (MADD).
our mountain roads are no place to drive in any condition other than sober and undistracted.
and remember, with the budget cuts go extra CHP service that we depend on.

Time to raise taxes on alcohol, and legalize, regulate and tax marijuana.

And how about apologizing for the comments demonizing all motorcyclists. Once again, drunk nails a motorcyclist.

I always wonder about the unreported details for things like this. The drunk woman with the child was returning home after shopping at a market. Her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. Didn't anyone at the market notice that she was drunk, and had a small child with her? Didn't anyone notice that she was carrying car keys, or see her put her child into the car? Why didn't anyone intervene?

The drug addict was seen tailgating and speeding before hitting a child. Did anyone phone the CHP to report the dangerous driving? Is that how it's known that he was driving that way? Or is that just eyewitness reports after the fact?

I've been behind obviously drunk drivers on Highway 1 before. I call them in to the CHP. I know that Hwy. 9 is spotty reception for cell phones, but I'd urge everyone to call in any car that appears to be driven by someone under the infuluence. If you're wrong, no one is harmed by the report. If you're right and do nothing, someone will be harmed eventually.

Both of these people are facing prison time. DUI with injury is rarely given probation. Unless you happen to be the off-duty CHP officer who was DUI up in Marin County a few years ago, and ran over some guy on his bicycle. He got just 4 months probation.
