Been to GG Park lately, Drunks and meth addicts are just as prominent in the Marina as they are on the coast. We smoke alot of green here but you can't say that makes us surly. The fact is that cars don't get the same right of way they get in your sewer of a town where beatings, stabbings, and shootings are regular. So "before you accuse me, take a look at yourself.

Also I am sick of hearing about all the dirty looks. I never give dirty looks, pleasantly answer any questions asked, that is unless someone is driving too fast, which folks from out of town are apt to do on thier way to use our beach and then go home and talk about how messed up we are. Everybody needs to get over the dirty look thing, maybe I'm ugly....maybe I'm depressed about the lack of responsibility in our world, maybe you are wrong and I was not looking at you at all. And as for parenting, go to any high school in the state and you will find kids using drugs and some using violence...it aint always bad parenting, maybe take a look at the world they are inheriting. Those youth are responsible for thier action whether they like it or not but you cant blame this on thier geographical location.

I am surprised we have seen numerous pictures of Ricky in the paper and not a single mug shot of the cowardly gang. Is the media racist? If it was a black mob who attacked a white boy and beat him to an inch of his life, their mug shots would be all over town, the paper, the news channels and on CNN. People in the area may not know who those thugs are just by name. I am sure if their face was published many more people could come forward and testify that it was not the first time these so called "kids" acted out. They just probably got away with it the last times due to the over-indulgence of overprotective parents and local citizens. A man was beaten up the night before but I have not heard any arrests made in that particular case.
I have been around Bolinas downtown and the youth there is not a pretty sight, neither are adults for that matter. You try to drive through town and they look at you as they walk right in the middle of the street or skateboard as if you have no right to be there. I have not noticed great parenting either, lack of boundaries is right, and an excess of drugs and alcohol is probably involved as well. What can you tell your teenager not to do when so many in Bolinas demonstrate abuse of drugs and alcohol themselves. After 5 years old kids don't listen to what parents say, they just see what the parents model. Good for the police, show your face in Bolinas more often and the dangerous element will clear out for the benefit of all. I don't care if the parents are outstanding citizens, a young man who finds it alright to beat someone over the head when they are already injured with a skateboard multiple times needs to be under mental observation? These young men and one woman (yikes..) are adults and they can take responsibility for their actions unless they are criminally insane? a possibility. More likely they were using meth or other nasty drugs which are readily sold in Bolinas I hear. There were quite a few overdoses in the recent past including suicides due to drugs. It would be nice to set up a nice police sub-station right downtown and see the town move up to a civilized state. Bolinas is the sort of town where permissiveness and lack of police have allowed the criminal and unstable elements to hold everyone else hostage. Who needs that?

I've known Ricky for years and I am not aware of a more peaceable and kind soul. The idea that he confronted these barbaric, dim-witted Neanderthal punks is such a joke I can’t even begin to tell you. This is a blatant (and an unbelievably ludicrous) attempt to justify there heinous brutality. Hopefully they’ll be put behind bars and experience the same hell they put Ricky through. But I’ll have to be honest, even though I feel this way, Ricky wouldn’t. He never wishes ill will towards anyone.

There are troubled people everywhere. I do agree with an earlier poster that Bolinas has a certain 'concentration' but it is of both good and bad elements of our society. Not just 'rich Marin kids'. Of the long term residents I have spoken with, I have felt a great deal of sadness for the victim and the families of the suspects.
When I was roughly 16 years old, a homeless guys' dog came at me and a friend in front of the post office in Bolinas. When my friend kicked at his aggresive dog he pulled a knife and threatened us. We tackled him and held him until the sheriff arrived. But then we were not Eagle Scout or Mensa material. There can be a great deal of tolerance in Bolinas - some good and some bad.

Stanley Wong is the idiot that makes racist remarks about anything and everything. Exporting huh, more like ripping off people emotionally and financially. He's got a comment that makes abosolutely no sense whatsoever to any article within any posting in the IJ. Oh Stanley, please export yourself back to China (he claims he's "4th Generation" Asian. Who the hell cares!)or better yet, put yourself, your wife and your kids in a box and get the hell out of Marin or the US, you're a menance to any civilized society with your disgusting comments.

VERY ASTUTE ,TRAVELER: Bolinas is only the focal point where the hatefulness is so over-the-top it can't be ignored. The veneer of decency in Marin does not hold up to scrutiny. During the 22 years I lived in Marin (due to my employment) I occasionally encountered a visitor who commented on the "not for real" persona of the residents. I asked them if they would prefer to be treated with a phony friendliness or sincere disdain. They usually answered that, if given the choice, they would prefer to live somewhere else.
Most people in the United States are racists.
The only difference in Marin is that, for the
most part, they are rich. Oh, and by the way,
racisms goes both ways. Blacks hate light skin blacks. Northern Mexicans hate Southern Mexicans.
It's a lovely mess that seems to be getting worse.

I am proud of what I have accomplished in life.
I started with nothing and worked 2 jobs in college.
I have dealt with alot of self-entitled losers and John, I am sure you are one of those pathetic losers.
I have never beat up anyone and surely wouldnt team up on anyone.
Sounds like Bolinas is turning into the La Jolla surf scene.

Yes you are right.
Incredible.
My pen is is so small that I cringe at the mention of it.
Now lets talk about you.
Hypocritical scum.
Would you even know what its like to fulfill ones responsibility to ones family?
I bet the word integrity is a complete mystery to you.
Look in the mirror, what do you see?
Probably a child pretending to be a man.

one of the accused is my cousin, he is filipino to clear things up and an alcoholic. Many do not believe in the disease of alcoholism but when you have seen it first hand you know the sadness and cruelty that come with the individual. What they did to this man is shameful and very sad, but I try to look at the problem my cousin has and himself as an individual as two different things, justice needs to be served but he also needs to get some help. I know that in his right mind he would have never done something like this and i hope that from this he gets the help he needs and my prayers go out to the family of the victim.

Modern-day vigilantism in action. Similar to what happened in the movie "A Few Good Men," the elders of Bolinas decided to teach a lesson to this vagrant. Another parallel is from the movie "First Blood."

The short-term bad publicity will fade quickly, but the warning to others like him has been made clear. It's understandable what they did, Green probably was a despicable low-life (and he was black, of which there are not many in Bolinas). Just don't claim your town is a bastion of tolerance.
