This was the right decision. Why prohibit someone from walking across a stage after 13 years of school attendance? Graduating from high school is meaningless these days anyway. It is HIGH SCHOOL people, not Harvard, Yale, University of Michigan (my undergraduate alma mater), Texas A & M, or any other fine university. It is just HIGH SCHOOL. They ahve been warehoused for 13 years, so let them walk. many will never do anything else of significance in their lives. They will marry, have kids, work at some meaningless, law paying job; let them have a momemt. It hurts no one else and it makes them and their parental units feel better. I am glad they are being allowed to walk across a stupid stage. They'll have their moment and we'll all move ahead.

I fully understand the boards decision but what about all those in the past the board did not allow this privilege. I am thinking that the parents are the ones who run the district. We have excellent teachers who the board will not support for various reasons and now they prove they will back down and uphold that which is wrong and unfair because some parents are upset. Where were the parents when the student was cutting class for senior skip day, not attending tutoring because they needed to go have lunch with friends. To really be fair the board needs to allow all seniors to walk, those with NG and all those who will fail a class where the couse is needed for graduate. Another fair decision, the hiring of teachers in jobs they don't qualify for and has not been ASNNOUNCED for others to apply.Oh! the teacher does not the hours for the new position but will get the 12 hours required this summer but they have been hired in the position .All requirements will be completed in a year and a half. Don't meet the requirements you walk ;don't meet the requirements and get a job promotion. What a Joke.

I do not understand the boards decision to allow the kids that did not pass to walk. I think this is a privilege for the ones that worked hard and passed. This takes away from my son who is graduating on Saturday----is everyone going to be looking at him and wondering
"Did he pass or not".

Not Plain Not Right this is a shameless act by KISD. The message they are sending is if you don't pass it is okay we will let you walk because that is the only thing that matters. No one cares if you can read, add, substract, multiply or divide. You don't have to be able to develop a paragraph or write a clear concise sentence, you really don't have to attend tutoring or school for that matter, just whin and cry to walk. We know who has not met the requirements . I think if KISD is allowing the walking then the students should not be allowed to wear the cap and gown since that is something for a graduate.

Well Sunday will be here soon and then there will probably be no more opinions posted on this unfair decision but the board needs to know that we will remember all this when it is time for relection. If we had known Ms. Well's husband's swearing in was more important that exercising her right to vote that could have saved face for our district she chose to bail. What a wasted vote.

Keep to yourself,
You really should keep it to yourself with that opinion. It hurts what education should and does stand for. We have not real standards anymore and we talk with double tongues. Why make rules if you are just going to change then whenever a parent or student decides they want the rules changed. You are correct what makes walking such and issue? everything we have said and are saying is simple, enforce rules or throw them out.

It's a tough decision. I really do feel for the kids who passed all of their classes, but failed a test that they "think" proves they are worthy of graduating.

What happened if you passed all of your classes, you graduated? Who thinks the TAKS test should make that choice?

It's a tough one. Not sure how I'd feel about it if I were a student or a parent of a student at the high school.

i think that there should not be a taks for our children becuase the questions they ask on the test is from years ago and they have alot of things to remember within the school year. the kids that cant pass the tset are the ones thats doin good with their grades and if they dont pass they'll end up wanting to drop out and we want to prevent that
This is not right

Ok if they go school year to school year tell all of the high school seniors that if you don't pass than you don't walk or get your diploma, Well I say that if you don't pass all four parts of the taks test on your own than your out of a job bitch. It's just like that to us if you don't pass than you worthless in live. I'm a senior at Molina high school or I was a senior. I passed all my classes only missed 4 days all school year and only missed one part of the taks test. And that was math by four questions. And they told me that I wouldn't get no where in life and toldme that I was gonna be a nobody and a loser. Well lets say that I kind of told her to stop calling my house. Than my cap and gown that I payed for she wasn't gonna give it to me. Well my mom called her and got it I don't know how but I bet she got her back side chewed out.

When I was in school, you either passed or you didn't! It was as simple as that! Since our so called leader's have decided to mandate what our current crop of student's have to do in order ot pass and get their 'sheepskin' from school, it's all been down hill.
What ever happen to knowing enought to knowing how to finish school and get on with life???
Did you suffer uhduely because you didn't pass some stupid test?

i am a struggling senior with the the math taks test this year. i have been to tutoring at school and out of school. i have studied and tried my hardest but i still can not pass the thing. I will be leaving high school with more credits than need be and i rightfully deserved them. I do not believe it is fair that our high school education should be determined by a taks test. The test is something that makes you feel worthless in the end and brings you to tears night and day. i will be leaving school with more credits and some students that have passed the taks do not have all their credits and they are being treated like royalty while i am being treated like i am not a senior. I have worked hard to get here and i am not being treated the way i should just because i can not pass a test. you can not preach to any of us about taks if you do not know how it feels to pass it or not pass it. To work long and hard and then to find out that you failed. it is torture and hurts. you feel like you didn't only let yourself down but your family as well. I am going to be the first one to finish high school in my house, doesn't that stand for something? i have followed the rules and done what i was supposed to do, i can not help that math and i do not agree together.

I do not agree with not letting students walk because they failed the TAKS exit exam. If you passed your courses you should be able to walk across the stage with your senior class. Students should be given a written agreement to sign along with their parents that they promise to attend the summer classes to retake the TAKS exit exam. Who's going to get hurt in this situation. NOONE. I'm from New Orleans and the exit exam is called LEAP and if you passed your courses you can walk with your senior class. This test is BULLSHIT
