Ok so the government put out all this information about this damn stimulus payment.....what they failed to tell you is that if you work really hard, make a decent salary....even up to $50,000 .....you could end up getting only a small portion of the allotted money for citizens!!!!! Ok quick income tax lesson certain tax credits are refundable (you can get money as a refund along with your monies paid in) but most tax credits are non-refundable. Basically that means if you have non refundable tax credit (ie. daycare expenses, education expenses, residential energy credits) they are calculated first so that you get their full benefit, then (if you have qualifying children) the child tax credit is figured because it is a refundable credit.....the refundable part is calculated when you tax liablity after credits is reduced to $0 and then the credit is figured as additional child tax credit and that money will then be refunded to you at tax time. Ok so now that you understand (hopefully) let me explain one more thing before I lose my cool. When you start preparing taxes you figure out that a big goal is to get your tax liability to $0 so if you have items that will qualify you for tax credits you take the credits. However the government has exploited the working class parents. The SAID the stimulus money was supposed to help the economy.....now who better to stimulate the economy than the working class parents who are in crisis to make mortgage payments AND put gas in their cars to get to work every day......BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO they made their rules so that a single parent has to have a tax liability of $600 which means you got NO refundable credits at tax time and probably paid in or got a very small return and married couples....that is even worse!!! you had to have a tax liability of $1200 which means you might have gotten a refund but probably not much of one. So really is this stimulus money....or is it more to make up for the rich not having a refund....not only that but seriously this is overly ridiculous.......the government was blowing smoke up all our butts telling us $600 per person,$1200 per couple, and $300 per child.......this is all BS!! So a married couple making $45,000, one child, education expenses, daycare expenses, residential energy credit, child tax credit and additional child tax credit will get the same exact amount of stimulus rebate as a married couple that made $15,000 total for the year with 5 kids and a welfare check every month..........SERIOUSLY THIS IS THE BIGGEST CROCK OF BULL I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!!!! WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT PUNISHING ME FOR HAVING KIDS, FURTHERING MYSELF WITH EDUCATION, AND CARING FOR THE ENVIROMENT BY REDUCING MY CARBON FOOTPRINT?????????? Does this piss you off? start a letter writing campaign.......send e-mails to everyone you know.....do something cause this is ridiculous!!!!!!! Oh and to those who say "it is free money live with it.....remember that as much as it is "free money" you pay for all of it...when the government is willing to put out there that they are "helping" they should help.....and yeah I got a rebate but I believe it totally outrageous that i am penalized for these things! And no I did not get thousands of dollars back at tax time I got a very small amount compared to most people I know.

I totally agree. We got $600 less than we were expecting to get because we had filed an education credit on our tax return. That brought our tax liability to 0, which means we no longer qualified to receive $600 per adult & $300 per child. Because of the education credit, we got knocked down to $300 per adult & $300 per child.

So for anyone who filed an education credit (or any other credit) that lowered your tax liability, plan on getting the lowest amount because you will be penalized for it.

I agree, the way the government figured the "qualifying Child" was a crop of crap! So, I have been a single mom for 13years, my daughter (18yrs old) lives with me, works full time, goes to college full time and is not eligible for any government grants for education because I "make too much", my son (17 yrs old) still was in high school up until 30 days ago and I am fully respnsible for him as well and I got $600.00. A girl I work with is married, no children and she and her husband got $1200. That is such bs!!
