New York city is one of the most tolerant, culturally diverse and vibrant places in the world. There is a reason that people come from all over the world for the opportunity to live there. In one afternoon strolling through central park you can meet people from bangkadesh to ukraine and have the opportunity to learn about someone vey different from yourself. Unfortunately that same high demand keeps prices for a condo in the city at $1,000 per SQUARE FOOT (and that is after the real estate bubble). I have lived in both the north and the south and I appreciate both. The haters in Belmont really need to consider something: most Yankees do not move here for the diverse and wonderfully tolerant people. There is very little tolerence here for anything despite all of the church-going. This forum is a great example. They do not move here for the culture. It's hard to find anything beyond big box chain stores and corporate restaurant chains much less museums and art galleries. They move here because the weather is nice, taxes are more reasonable, and it is less expensive to live. Many constantly compare everything to the north because, if they won the lottery, they would rather move back. It is not an insult to you. It is where they grew up and what they are accustomed to. By the same token, all this crap about the north sucks and Belmont is the best just shows how many people have never left Gastonia. I like belmont and Charlotte plenty but until people start coming from all over to pay $600k for a one bedroom in downtown Belmont I think I'd lose a little of the superiority complex and the attitude. Just be nice already. The civil war ended a long time ago for most Of the country.
