Review: Events & Adventures Boston Inc

We keep seeing an email of smt372@gmail.com for class action lawsuit. How can we be sure the email was not created by Events and Adventures to collect people's grievances before they go somewhere else?

when I joined this "blog" wasn't around. Too bad. I have spent good money and from the beginning have been relatively disappointed. I have been in 3 years, the events are repetitive and way too much restaurant-ing and drinking (for me).
I have met nice people. I don't like being "taken" and as far as I am concerned, the two are not even comparable. E&A is in the business of selling memberships. Whatever demographic you fit, they pitch to it!!! If you're young, they'll tell you how many young people, middle-aged, same thing. They are eager to tell you that they have [signed-up] more than 3,000 members. Take that in perspective: they signed them up, but those are not "active" members. I wish I had saved my money!

E&A IS a huge scam. I agree w/the other post that I wish I read these BEFORE signing their contract. They lie to get you to sign. I made it perfectly clear that I didn't have a vehicle so I was only interested and able to attend if events were in Boston. I was repeatedly assured that MOST were in Boston. ONLY after I signed would I be allowed to see the locations. I chalked it up to a lame 'privacy' concern and let it go vs taking it for the red flag that it was. I didn't think too much of the 1st month, by the end of my 2nd month and a look at the upcoming 3rd month MOST were out of the city. I also saw the same drinking and bar themed events for the 3rd month in a row. This definitely doesn't meet my expectations and what was 'sold' to me. I've been trying to get a partial refund ever since. If the bar scene is your thing - fine, but please don't pay these people an outrageous membership fee to bar hop - bars, trivia nights and the like are pretty much open to anyone over 21. Same thing with the trip to the museum - wow, it was a FREE event (unusual) but admission was FREE to the public that day. They don't appear to have any buying power as an organization since they charge you full price for tickets to shows & sporting events (but those are typically sold out any way so you won't get in if you wanted to). Go to the ticket office and get your own ticket and again, don't pay these people a membership for a year on top of it. When I addressed the quality of events they said that I could come up with events - so they wanted me to do THEIR job. When I addressed events being out of the city they said go on E/A Face Book to find a ride! Really? I'm not about to get into a vehicle, with a stranger, that's been drinking and take my chances getting home. This could be a successful, fun concept - but E&A has brought it to an all time low. Shame on me for falling for their line of crap! I will continue to pursue avenues for consumers that are scammed and expose E/A for what they really are.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE'S ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE! THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS. I RECEIVED WORD FROM THEM TODAY AND THEY RESPONDED:

"We will take note of your complaint in order to identify potential trends of unfair or deceptive trade practices..."

PLEASE, THE MORE COMPLAINTS AT THIS LEVEL, THE BETTER CHANCE WE HAVE AT GETTING OUR MONEY BACK!

I was charged $3181 for 16 months... I used it for 1 month before I met my now husband somewhere else not associated at all with E&A. I asked them specifically after the 1 month of membership if I could get a refund and they said yes...but after sending in many documents, I have no refund and now have $3181 paid for 2 events. Would NOT recommend to anyone in Nashville!

Thank you all for your input. I spoke to a lady today regarding A&E and was thinking of making the appointment to meet. My radar was already up with the fact that no details would be given over the phone, that a high pressure, "interview" was being pushed..never a good sign! Also, the prices you all have provided have blown me away! REALL?! and then on top of it you have to pay their prices for the events. My concerns were also that the main office was an hour from where I live and that most of the activity would be further than I was willing to drive. I am a highly educated, white collar professional who can afford the fee, but I really do not think this is all that it is cracked up be.

I'm a member I love it. The sales is sketchy. But I really feel its worth the money. Before I joined I sat on the couch playing Facebook games, dating losers on Internet sites, and was afraid to talk to people. Now just after a few months I'm a social butterfly with nice friends, pictures, and memories to cherish for a lifetime. I'm so glad I joined. I met an awesome guy this last Friday night, ets see where that goes.

I heard an ad for this on the radio today and checked out their website, since I was looking to make some friends in the Boston area. all they ask for is your name and some basic contact info but before giving them that, i decided to check the review section. all reviews in there were suspiciously positive and enthusiastic, so I checked a third party review site, which is why i'm here now.
The price tag was all i needed to see. Some $1,300 to make new friends? no. thank. you.

I have signed up for this today and yes faced the high pressure sales tactics described by many, but thought the overall idea was worth it. Now I see most events are not in my area and it also seems from comments that demographics of the group are falsified to make you believe what you want to hear. If I call by tomorrow it will be less than 24 hours since my signing up - has anyone gotten their money back if you call in that time or do they still find ways of keeping your money?

Best of luck in getting your money back! Please take 2 minutes to file your complaint or issues w/the attorney generals office (online). There are so many of us that we're deceived and are looking for refunds!

You need to mail them certified mail to cancel. Phone call will not work. Read the fine print.

After months I finally caught this commercial on the radio in time to write it down - Then, as always, researched possible complaints.. All I can say is.. WOW.... Thank you for documenting all your first hand accounts over the past FOUR YEARS !!! with this company. I was hoping for a better environment to meet single people my age as perceived from the advertising - Sounds like the whole corporate staff needs a good old fashioned Hose-beating to bring some respect to the table - Best of luck to all trying to deal with them - I guess its back to random chance and Match.com -JR

I heard about Events & Adventure on my local radio station and decided to call. They did seem a little resistant in providing more information over the phone and i even told the sales person this sounded like i was coming in for a job interview. I was considering making an appointment with them but thanks to everyone's review i will NOT be wasting my time with this company.
P.S. I WILL NOT "pay" outrageous amounts of money to have friends or dates.

Thanks,everyone for your warnings. You'd think with 4+ years of bad reviews that someone would correct their mistakes. There seems to be a market for this type of thing. Too bad we couldn't all get together for a picnic or "Duck" boat ride. Doesn't someone out there know someone to organize this for us? Just get a background check, a list of stuff to do, a cost for a ticket,box lunch & 20% set up fee... Hey, 1% could go to a charity!

You are so obviously a plant for this company . Your so "glas your a member" but how can you still be a member if you arent single any more, due to the fact that you said you met your husband through this club ??

Again, this is a scam. It is not an interview, it is a sales push. I joined a year ago and went to 5 events. It was awful and awkward. They told me I would meet quality people like myself (well educated, with a good job, etc). At the club I met awkward, uneducated people. I asked for my money back in September and the owner told me he would meet with me in person. It is now July and he has not met with me yet. Please do not throw away your money.

Thanks for making my mind up. I will NOT be attending the interview I had set for next week. Iam thankful I ecided to read the reviews (MOST of which are negative).

MISLEADING to say the least! I was a member for a year and paid full price for every event! I was told that after i paid the huge initial fee that everything would be free or greatly discounted. That is an outright lie! I checked the cost for non E&A members at many events and we were paying full price. I'm not really sure what those thousands of dollars went to except for advertising and the initial consultation (scam)! Another complaint is that men get great deals because there are so few of them and women pay full price for the membership. I complained to supervisor after supervisor about this misrepresentation and was told that they could help me find events that i would enjoy. Don't believe E&A!!!

I am seriously considering a class action law suite against Events and Adventures. How do I do this?
