The " rural Vermont look... what exactly is that? Depending upon whom you listen to, it means no wireless access (even low-level cell towers would spoil the ridgelines, even with cell towers below tree level); no wind generators (also located where no likely buyers would see them) and no "big box" stores that apparently include anything owned by anybody not living within the Bratt city limits. Excepting, of course, Brown & Roberts (Ace Hardware) and Fireside (True Value), whose destruction was predicted when Home Depot (defunct, along with 85 local jobs) opened.

It's too much to expect, I know, that people actually do the homework and have some knowledge Re the issues they rant about. This seems to be the age of the instant expert: Just add headline. Not the story, of course, that would demand reading skills and an attention span of more than a fruit fly.

It's where people without old family money live dirt poor and have to pay top dollar for everything in some backwords rural places because people can't stand seeing some big corporate name on a store.
Ace/Truvalue is a monster corporation just like Home Depot, instead of a store manager that get paid a salary and benefits, they let some dreamer put their life savings on the line as a franchise owner. The samething with the family owned store or restuarant where the supplies come from corporate america and the owners work endless hours.

People fall for the myth small business creates over 70% of the jobs is the country, like FEDEX independant contractors and fast food franchise owners LOL. The family farm is the biggest joke, most of glorified sharecroppers for corporate america buying seeds, tractors & all the rest of their supplies from giant corporations and taking all the financial risk while killing themselves 7 days a week trying to make it.

I agree with Mike, the 5 acres not being developed, since it is in back of the diner and is not really part of the road developement, could cause flooding if devoloped, I am still not entertained by the idea we can take care of our kids future and have a good economy in town if we depend on the local businesses that exist and some small growth such as the dutton stand which would not make much of an impact. We need a good mixture of tourism and box stores to attract tourist as well as keep our future looking good for our future with a good economy.
