Careful what you sign at the Extreme Fitness (XF). I was a member since it was the good ole Powerhouse Gym. XF continued charging me after i wanted out because of the fine print, even though I didnt have a contract and if I cancelled the electronic debit, the manager threatened me with a collections agency. Applying for a mortgage, I was pretty much at their mercy. The gym equipment was outdated under the previous ownership, but at least they didnt hassle you with fine print like they do now.

I signed up for a 6 month membership and paid in full up front. I now want to renew for a full year. I was told that I have to pay a $99 enrollment fee on top of the stated monthly charge. They say that even though I am already a member, they already have my registration information, my credit card number and I have an electronic gym tag, I must enroll again to change my terms. The 6 month registration was quite high so they already made a bundle off od me.
They are letting me walk away while at the same time they are spending thousands of dollars in advertising to attract new members for $399.
How can it make financial sense to any business to lose a loyal customer who is asking to renew and will probably stay for years to come while at the same time offer much lower deals to new potential customers?
What a short sighted decision. I guess I will become an appreciated member at Titan instead.
The message is that a member who pays $300 for 6 months is not truly an enrolled member because he did not take the 12 month plan at the outset. But from the other side, I am not a new member being offered the $399 special because to qualify for that special rate you can't already be a member.
Be careful what you sign and make sure you understand all the games they will play. For a $99 re-enrollment, they will let you walk out the door.

Buyer Beware!!!!
What you are seeing posted here is so true.
Not only do I recommend you read the fine print I would advise anyone even thinking about joining this gym to forget it!
The contract is so one sided it must be illegal.
This place does not care about you at all. They don't appreciate you as a customer either.
I was a member in good standing on automatic payment for 7 months.
I called and canceled my membership over the phone with the manager, Chiara "who has ice running through her veins" and she still charged me for another 2 months.
I am not even using the gym and they are charging me!
This place should be banned by everyone and anyone even thinking about joining!!!
There are so many better gyms out there in all aspects.
I wouldn't go to this gym if it was the last place on this earth!!!!!!!

omg I had the same exact experience with 'chiara' the manager this summer!! Her attitude was the straw that broke the camels back and I cancelled my membership after 5 years. I work out at the Freeport Rec Center now for $225 a year.

i thought it was just me?? had the same experience with this young ignorant and obviously very spoiled girl "Chiara" and she is horrendous!!! She actually told me to go "fuck" myself after I could not handle her disgusting attitude and I had to walk out. I was trying to cancel my membership after I was upset that they had assessed four fees to my account without even a call!!! I have to go back in there tonight and see if there is anyone human in there to just cancel my membership! I loved this gym but I can't work out there with this attitude. I like personalizeed gyms, and this is definatley what you get but from as one man reportede, "the ice queen" and they don't really care about you as a customer.

Thats funny I got such a bad vibe when I walked in with my girlfriend to sign up in tonight! There were two bratty little girls behind the counter that had to be not a day older than 15! I told them that we were ready to sign up (2 people!) and I would like them to do something with the enrollment fee.. like waive it.. they said sorry and basically looked away and helped out someone else who was at the counter.... They are not too smart over there.. I wonder who is running that place.. whoever it is is either zoned out on steroids or has so much money that this gym is a hobby and doesnt care if it is losing money! How do you pass up on 2 memberships over $99.. they could have even offered a 50% enrollment fee and I would have went for it... pure stupid if you ask me. Dont waste your time going to this gym.. go where they will give you the time of day.

I took a kickboxing class the other night with an instructor named Eric. When I took a few second break to get some water I looked at my cell phone and Eric started screaming at me. I was not on the phone so looking at my phone for whatever reason did not effect him in any way. I spoke to Chiara and told her that I go to the gym to destress after a day of work not to be yelled at like a child. She explained that people love Eric's attitude. What kind of gym allows his instructors to curse at their customers and then say its okay. I like to go to classes at 5 but this low life is the only instructor. I suggested alternating him with someone else to pick up those of us who don't like this immature behavior. Her reponse was they are opening up a new extreme in Merrick. How in the world can they afford to keep two gyms open three miles apart especially with their attitude? Is there something fishy going on here?

I'm so glad that I read these reports. I was actually thinking about joining this gym because it was closer rather than going to a gym that was practically free. Based upon the reviews here, I would rather travel the extra 15 minutes for a hassle free workout. Maybe prospective clients should take their contracts to an attorney before handing over any monies! Working out is not supposed to be so mentally draining (let along financially draining). Thanks for all your opinions. I haven't even seen one good one.

I love xtreme gym!!.. im sorry guys, but I read the contract before signing and there was nothing out of the ordinary that no other gym is asking for on there. All the staff is extremely helpful and friendly everytime im on there. And Eric's class is kickbutt!! He is the only one that can whip me into shape in no time!! His yelling goes a long way!!

Dont even bother contacting the owner...he is the same way. Why do you think his employees act that way? because they can get away with it. He is the rudest person I've ever met and doesn't care if people join his gym. Nobody should give this guy business...he told me that he didn't give a s*it if I joined his gym, that he didn't need my money because he didnt like my friends attitude (who actually belongs to the gym and wanted me to join with her!) He's a complete scumbag. Go to titans, LA Fitness or another gym...so not worth giving your money to a guy who will disrespect you and not make you feel comfortable coming into his gym and using his equiptment.

How is it that Xtreme is offering new members no enrollment fee and 30$/mo., while old loyal customers are charged 40$/mo. and enrollment fee. This means more than 200$/yr. more for existing members. How do you do local business like this??

JUST SIGNED UP...25 A MONTH NO ENROLLMENT AND THREE FREE MONTHS. I READ THE REVIEWS, BUT THE PRICE WAS TOO GOOD AND WITH ACCESS TO ALL THREE GYMS, YOU CANT BEAT IT. BTW, MY GYM GAVE ME THE SAME HASSLE TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT, THEY ARENT THE ONLY GYM THAT DOES THAT. ITS A WAY FOR THE GYMS TO SQUEEZE A FEW MORE MONTHS OUT OF YOU.

Jen, while we deeply appreciate our loyal customers. The special that is being run is for our brand new gym in Merrick that has 0 members. In order for a new gym to survive, it must attract new members. If we would reduce all our members to the same rate, I can assure you we would have to close our doors to all members and we would not be able to afford the upkeep of any of our gyms and we would be out of business. I am sure this is not what you want.

Dear "Bad Gym", as the owner I treat people exactly the way people treat me or my employees. 99 percent of all the members are courteous and respectful people. However, if you are going to disrepect my business with your rudeness, then make no mistake about it I will come back at you twice as hard and yes it is true I do not want your money and I do not want your business. That is why I told you to join Titans.

Sincerely

As someone who employs hundreds of people privacy is extremly important. I am sure that you would not appreciate people giving out your personal information as well. This is why I have a management team in place to deal with any problems. We are very fortunate to have Chiara, you are mistaken rude with stern. And unfortunately there are times as a manager that she must enforce my policies in which you may not agree with.
