WARNING: Libelous "Free" Website Traps

My latest correspondendce with Word Press (while using Bellingham public library computer):

Yes, when editing the page freezes up--impossible to proceed. Sometimes a notice will appear asking if I want to continue due to the length of time required for loading up the page. Usually I respond "yes", and wait...and wait...and wait. But the page remains frozen (with the hour glass showing). Unable to use cursor on anything else. Frozen. The worst aspect of this is that these free websites are now known to be commonly hacked, so since Word Press does not allow a person to close the account, the information remains with an entirely different meaning (due to a hackers manipulation) than what was written by the true author of the webpage. What this does to me personally is misrepresent what I've written (a form of libel), and is harmful in that the Word Press page is the first link shown on a Google search of my name. Word Press ought to allow a person to close the account or at least have made it clearer at the beginning that once the account is begun, it cannot be closed.--Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I wasn't able to replicate that problem. Can you please describe
the process that leaves to your screen freezing up? Is it only when
you try to edit a page? When you say "freeze," what exactly
happens? Please provide as many details as possible so we can help
you troubleshoot.

Word Press resolved the dilemma. They removed all information off my "Bewildered Yet?" site. Wheew! It felt like a trap for awhile there since there is no way to close the Word Press site completely. They do not allow that option. Hope it remains free of any input (hackers). I plan to leave it alone. Be careful with these free personal websites. Sounds like MySpace is having some controversy over maintaining right to personal information on their sites. That was in newspapers this past week.

Just searched MySpace and sure enough an account appears with my name. Apparently my Xanga personal website (the one hacked and manipulated) was cut/paste onto the MySpace page with my name. Yet none of my four e-mail accounts indicate having a password through MySpace (when selecting "Forgot your password?" on My Space and entering my four different e-mail accounts, it shows none are valid). This is exactly what I mean--harmful deceptions are occurring over internet and a person is powerless to correct it.
