New glasses = new agreement. Your original card stated that those glasses had a lifetime guarantee for $5. You took part in that guarantee and got your new glasses. That agreement is now null and void. The new glasses you received came with a new agreement for $8. Those glasses are now covered with a lifetime guarantee (something that isn't implicit in the original agreement) for a new fee (nice of them, since you already got a new pair under the old agreement). People tend to believe that once you buy something it is guaranteed for the rest of your life, no matter how many times it fails or how long you have it. That is not the intent of a lifetime guarantee--it is to comfort the consumer that the company stands behind their product and will make you happy. I believe they made you happy by giving you a new pair for their original stated guarantee of $5. They even included a new guarantee for their new product with the cost of inflation (or whatever that $8 is for) included. Not a bad deal. I don't trust these guys either, having dealt with them here in VA, but your original complaint about them upping the cost on the new glasses is, in my opinion, unwarranted.

They were clipons and came with the same $5.00 Lifetime warranty.
After what I have read I guess I'll just pitch them in the trash.
Too bad there are thieves in every corner of US commerce.
Buyer beware, 3rd Generation and Sunglass Discounters, Inc. are
crooks!

I live locally. I called, talked to a nice girl, sent glasses back and had a new pair returned to me within a few weeks. This is about the 3rd time I've been through the process and had no problems.

I ordered two pairs, one fit and one didn't. I've sent multiple e-mails over several weeks to them via their website asking what I need to do regarding their "Satisfaction Guarantee". So far NO RESPONSE! I'm not getting a good feeling about this.

Have to be fair about this. I posted a comment on April 20th, 2010 indicating I had not received my replacement sunglasses as yet, but they had not cashed my check either. Don't know when, but I did finally get my replacement sunglasses. My advice to people would be to be patient and, if necessary, be persistent. If they cash your check and you don't get your glasses, THEN, you truly have something to complain about; otherwise, I don't think your worlds will come to an end if you are out the cost of your $30-$40 sunglasses that you've worn for...... how many years?

I agree that, unless stated OTHERWISE in legal terms according to the state the glasses are sold in, the Lifetime Replacement Guarantee cannot be changed/altered to include a higher replacement cost to the customer! I commend the original poster and wish them luck with their efforts. The LRG is a legal document provided to the customer upon purchase, by purchasing, BOTH parties have now agreed to the legal terms and conditions and BOTH parties are legally obligated to abide by them. Sunglass Discounters, Inc. never informed/s customers they "have the right to change prices at their convenience or will without notifying the purchaser." Therefor the original LRG MUST be honored! NO IF'S, AND'S, or BUT'S about it!
For those of you concerned about sending yours in for replacement:
1)MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING! Make sure your LRG card has the Style number BEFORE sending them in. 2)TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR SUNGLASSES so you have Physical proof of your purchase and style! That way, if you're sent the wrong pair or pair of lesser value((According to the LRG agreement; "If your style of sunglasses is not available, we will replace it with the closest style of EQUAL OR GREATER VALUE.")) take them to the nearest SD, Inc. distributor, ask how much the replacement pair costs and if it's less, immediately and politely DEMAND you receive a new pair from the stand, in exchange for the lesser valued pair, on the spot, of equal or greater value as per the companies Warranty Agreement!
3)If you've already sent yours in and have YET to receive a replacement, go the distributor you purchased them from and as them to check with the company FOR YOU. 9 times out of 10, the company will respond quicker when contacted by one of their distributors verses one of their MILLIONS of customers! Have your style number, shipping date and tracking number available for the retailer.
4) TRACK YOUR PACKAGE!!!! Make sure someone has to sign for the package... It's a little extra money, but at least you'll KNOW when they received it and you'll be more likely to have something done about if they don't deliver!

To those saying the person needs a life and is wasting consumer protection agencies time... REALLY? OUR TAX DOLLARS PAY FOR THESE "CONSUMER REPORTING AND PROTECTION" AGENCIES TO KEEP COMPANIES LIKE THIS IN CHECK AND TO PROTECT OUR COUNTRIES CONSUMERS FROM BEING CHEATED AND STOLEN FROM!!!

Unless the companies informs the purchasing customer in writing that "prices will be raises" they CANNOT RAISE PRICES!!!
COMMON SENSE ABOUT THE EVER FAILING ECONOMY IS PROTECTING OUR INVESTMENTS AND OUR MONEY!

Do you have the new name and address?
Jen Nonya wrote:
I am familiar with this place and also familiar with thuhbadguy who originally posted. First let me say doesn't that screen name say it all folks? Shuman said it perfectly. I have had the experience when sending my glasses back to have it take 2 weeks to up to 4-6 weeks. The difference being the time of year you happen to be sending your glasses in. As far as the price rising, everything else has risen postage, wages, printing, sunglass prices it really only makes sense. I say if you haven't gotten your glasses call them. The list is endless in what could have happened to them. I know they are still in business and although have changed their address and name, I have always received my sunglasses back and I love them. thuhbadguy needs a life. To spend the amount of time he has contacting government agencies wasting their time is crazy. If you don't want to pay $3 more, don't, but quit bad mouthing companies that don't deserve it and wasting countless peoples time.

I have been doing business with them for 6-10 years and have never had a problem....until now. I sent back two pair of damaged glasses to be replaced about 2 months ago. I called them a month ago and they assured me they were back logged and would be sending out a huge shipment that week. Three weeks later and still no glasses. I called them and left messages, no response. I called them today and the mailbox is full and won't take messages. My guess is that with service like this they will be going out of business real soon!

I can relate to some of the other ads. I sent Sunglass Discounters an $8.00 money order along with my broken pair of sunglasses July 22 2010 in agreement with the lifetime warranty card and I haven't received my new pair of sunglasses or a refund! I haven't heard anything from the company! This is the first time I've had any problems with them. I'd like to get my glasses or a refund on my money order, but I'd rather have my glasses.

Are you people for real? Next time donate the return postage to a food pantry, church, homeless shelter, an out of work family, or Make A Wish. Somthing meaningful. You will feel better. Then go buy yourself a new pair of glasses and feel better about yourself. A hungry child comes before sunglasses. Good grief. I don't remember seeing pictures of Jesus wearing sunglasses. I could be wrong. Good grief, how pathetic.

I know their office and warehouse recently moved. They are backlogged. Also, I know there is just one girl working in the warehouse getting out all the sunglasses reorders. Unfortunately patience is needed here. This company does live up to it's warranty. Speed could be addressed by them and that would make a change. Waiting is hard to do.

Some of you people are in severe need of assistance. Here is a company offering lifetime replacement for the basic cost of sunglasses. Name one company that keeps their word with the lifetime replacement and then follows through. I have had 3 sunglasses replaced by this company and was always very grateful that a company still existed in today's climate that would honor a little card given out at a roadside stand.
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Instead of going after a little company and I think I read now going after their religion,( Hello! this is the US. Ever hear of freedom of religion?), maybe you should concentrate you ire towards something more fruitful.
It's people like some of you who cause great guarantees like this to be stopped when this is the kind of thing we need in America. geesh!

I 1st came across these glasses about 10 yrs ago at a roadside stand in my town and it only came around once a year or so. They were called "2nd gen" then. the first replacement i was able to get was from the same stand the next year ($5.00 fee). if some of you have a kiosk in your area maybe you can get your replacement there.

"Confused": 3gsun has morphed into perfectglasses.com & offer LRG and many of the styles of 3rd gen. i bought a pair online from them a few yrs ago & the lrg is up to $10. i was going to send back a couple of pairs today, figured i should do a little research first, and stumbled upon this forum. now i'm having doubts. in the midst of writing this, i remembered that waaay back, these used to be called blublocker sunglasses so i went looking & at blublocker.com , there was my favorite style on their homepage. i haven't yet even checked out their prices, guarantees, etc., but even though you'd have to pay full price up front for the glasses, i doubt their customer service could be any worse than what i've been reading about on this forum. then again, never say never but maybe b.b. could be an option that works. just a thought. good luck.
