I came down with viral meningitis one month after having a C-Section! I had a spinal block... Wonder if the two ladies had a natural birth or not. I lost over a month of my life, gettting over meningitis. I was in the hospital for 4 days. I was laid up in bed for nearly a month in a 1/2 because I had headaches so bad. I blame the hospital where I delivered!! Every lawyer I talk to says I have no case! Right!?!

1 Both the ladies that came down with it had a spinal block. Which hospital did you deliver at? You might end up having a case after all when the investigation is thru. It's starting to look to me like someone tampered with these epidurals. jmo! |

The difference, of course, is that you got viral meningitis and the cases at the hospital were bacterial...that may be a bit of a barrier for you.

1 As does any news about government agencies or other entities like MRH. That is so the real truth does not get exposed. Certain things and people do not get held accountable for wrong doing around here. Even if they are mistakes nothing is done like what would happen if it were the general public that pays the way for they're incompetence. Just like the dog case that was swept under the rug. Nobody will ever hear the real truth because it would shine a negative light on an already corrupt and inept agency and officials. |

I was just told today and I am willing to wait and see what comes of this. But the lady that died did not die from menengitis but from being given the wrong meds. There was supposedly a second privately funded autopsy done and results were found that she did not have menengitis. They are pursuing legal actions against the ones involved. If this is the case I hope they throw the book at those responsible! That is probably why nothing else has been said in the local news. Which wouldnt be anything new around here that things get covered up. This in my opinion did not have to happen and my heart goes out to the families involved.

That remains to be seen, but it would not be astonishing. The American Medical Association itself (AMA) has admitted that more people die in the United States annually from medical and hospital mistakes and from FDA drugs used as prescribed than from automobile crashes and gun shootings combined. A hospital is a very bad place for a sick or injured person. Take your chances of dying at home. The medical profession is very hypocritical when it points the finger of blame at the firearms industry and firearms owners. |

1 I don't believe I was analyzing anything, but I don't suppose you would know what that means anyway. You are the one that's overly anal and full of bull shit. Are you one of Jir Cough's retarded younger brothers? The ones from all the "uncles" who visited all the time after dad passed away in Vietnam? What a tragedy! My condolences and prayers to the family. I think that's the formula, isn't it? |

Has anyone seen this... I actually read the news on our local sites, but didn't see this article.

1 meningitis : Inflammation of the membranes of the brain or spinal cord. The CDC and the State Board of Health are involved because the law requires Mandated Reporting of suspected infectious diseases such as meningits. Although I am not privy to 'who' the staff member is, I would make an educated guess that the person was in contact with both patients and was displaying symptoms of some sort of respiratory illness. Will this get swept under the rug? It is at a level of investigation that goes beyond the confines of this county. Do any of you really have a clue about any of this speculation and the conclusions you are trying to draw? My screen name is the answer to that. |

1 Welcome to your surroundings, SBI. We'd have to include you in that group I am afraid. You added nothing new, just bitched at those trying to furnish a little more information than the hospital, the local subservient newspaper and the local radio station dared to release. If it hadn't been for Topix volunteers, the whole affair would have been swept under the rug as usual. |

2 Two women gave birth at MRH. Both received an intrathical injection. Both developed symptoms that were consistent with a diagnosis of meningitis. As mandated by federal guidelines this had to be reported to the state and to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention(CDC). As of this point, tests are stil being ran to see how these women contracted this strain of meningitis. What has happened on the level to which this news report was generated is that the state department of health which is the governing body over hospitals and such and has guidelines in place received an anonymous tip so they did an investigation which resulted in MRH having 3 violations. Believe me these while they are overly important, are minor violations. Minor. These 3 and again I will say minor violations are not pertinent to the ongoing investigation of the CDC as to the source of these infections. I will spell it out for you. The general mudslinging against MRH on this thread and the subsequent speculation had and have absolutely nothing to do with a federally mandated investigation. If you really believe otherwise, then you are just simply foolish! And to correct you, what I provided was clarity, instead of speculation and uninformed musings. Now, so you can get a better grasp on the whole media thing. The radio station now has that information on their website. As far as the newspaper, well this story probably hit the wires after they went to press, see when you are dealing with a small scale enterprise, such as the examiner which isnt staffed 24/7, 365 like most metropolitan media sources, then you just have to expect that they aren't going to be the first to report the story. Since the investigation is based out of Columbus, I am certain that they had access to the story first, probably even before MRH had received the report. I do hope you take a moment to get educated about the big picture, as things do happen outside the confines of little old logan county and realize that what happens on this thread has no bearing on an investigation of this nature. |

1 No, Mandy, I am just saying that without input from Topix contributors the whole slimy business would have slid neatly under the carpet, and we'd have heard nothing about it, just like the dumped dog carcass scandal. Fortunately MRH staffers had enough outrage to file anonymous complaints and send in samples to the CDC for analysis. That takes a lot of courage when you've been warned by your supervisor to shut your trap and your job is on the line. Nice try at damage control, Mandy. Unfortunately you missed the point on all thrusts. Not a fencer, are you? |
