We always travel across the mountain on the 4th to see the parade, visit with relatives and friends that we haven't seen in a while. But, was it just me or what.....I thought the 2009 4th of July parade was really flat. Not near as exciting as the previous years (I know it is not an election year). The local fire dept didn't have a fire engine in the parade nor was the local ambulance service. I know the alumni band was there but what about the high school band? If I had to judge on the best float it would be very hard since really none stood out as great. I guess that the manager of the Fred's store didn't get the rules for...no water guns in the parade. They did it anyway! Herman did a fine jobs as usual on his roller skates. Also hear that he was getting a street named after him. Way to go Herman!!!!:) Maybe next year will be a better year...everyone enjoy the day and be safe. And to the man driving without his small child in a car seat...it is a law to have her buckled in. When my son said something to you about it you flipped him off....goes to show how much you value you little girl.

it gets more pathetic with each passing year especially since they started letting pictures of aborted babies entered!! i always thought the 4th in dunlap was for familys and especially kids. who in their right mind would want kids to see pictures like that? that takes a sick person to have pictures of aborted babies in their front yard. end of story i dont care who disagrees with it!!!! i missed about half of the parade this year. any one know if he was allowed in it this year?

I don't know we walked away when the last fire truck went through. We don't really care for the cars that really don't look special (know what I mean) and the horses.
I know that there is a rule of freedom of speech, but if the car or float doesn't relate to the holiday than they shouldn't be allowed in the parade.
Oh, another thing...did I missed the ball teams with a float? And usually the school board has a float..perhaps I missed that too. No clowns...no shrines and their cars. Where was the new mayor of Dunlap? Did I miss him too??

Sounds like David and Sharon should have watched the ENTIRE parade before commenting. And Yes, it was flat, but the weather was nice!

I am confused....Sharon said there were no fire engines..and then said she left after the last fire engine went through.... anyways...we enjoyed the parade. The kids got out on a nice day, got to see a cool airplane, got to listen to a nice "america the beautiful" right in front of us, got to catch LOTS of candy, saw some friends, and just enjoyed themselves! I agree that floats could try a little harder, and I agree the 4 wheelers and normal cars (that don't even through candy) along with the dirt bikes..are stupid. But the kids like the horses.

You don't know shit about this David. Cecil can not turn away anyone that want's to be in the parade. The City is liable to get sued if he did. What he did to 2 years ago (which was brillant) was put Crazy Jerry Layne behind the Horses. Which that must have done the trick bc he wasn't in it last year or this year! So do some research first before running your mouth!

Sharon and David. Im sorry you did not enjoy the parade. Yes our new mayor was in the parade, with his wife and his two daughters and more of his family. Did you happen to see the fuel plane in the sky? And who cares if a little girl on the Freds Float had a water gun? It was a cute float with happy smiling people on it. I think you need to think about why we celebrate the 4th of July. I enjoyed the parade very much. Not every town has a parade on the 4th. No one made you come to the parade. If you can not say somthing nice do not say anything at all. I think some people are never happy about anything. Just go through life looking for things to complain about.

I will tell you where the LOCAL fire dept was....in the fire hall. They were told by Dunlap City Hall that due to insurance purposes they would not be allowed to drive the trucks in the parade. This came about from a complaint by some busy body citizen of Dunlap. How many years has the fire dept been in the parade?

Isnt the parade for the kids mainly? I happen to think it is and I have 2 sons who loved it. So watching them enjoy it made me have a wonderful time. My childrens happyness is what is important to me and that we actually have the freedom to have a parade. We should all think about our women and men who give their lives and time away from their families to allow us to be free.

Hey people... what about the new banner the Rescue Squad had this year? And the 2 girls that carried it did a good job. I thought it added alot to the beginning of the parade.

We enjoyed the parade. Took our grandchildren. Little girl on Fred's float with water gun was a welcome on such a hot day. And the fire trucks that had to stay at the station, can understand that too, In case of emerency they had to be ready to respond. It was nice to see all the people out enjoying themselves. Thank God and our Military for our freedom. God Bless America
