The state needs to mandate municipalites to provide EMS in the same manor they provide for Fire and Police. The Federal and State govies need to provide the same level of funding for equipment with grants as they do for Fire. I am not anti fire but c'mon the amount of money wasted on fancy trucks in this state is sick! EMS is a fairly new service but the cost associated are rising and they need help. The call volume in this area is about 1000 per year, what is the REAL fire number..200-300?

Medic 151 is the best hosptial based squad in the area. They will be able to cover the area with Acting Chief Medic April doing her best !

Fries is correct. The state should mandate EMS. and the Local EMS councles should crack down on volunteer squads that cant get out the door. volunteering is a great thing but its time to give the community the rapid EMS care they need.

The biggest problem facing EMS is that the chiefs and to a certain extent the Medics and EMTs do not play well with others. The officers of the organizations divide the locals up into their own little fiefdoms and rule like some sort of modern day dukes or lords. This leads to all sorts of petty infighting and the loss of focus on the fact that the reason any of the squads are in existence to to service the patient. The regional plan would be the best bet, it takes the power out of the hands of individuals and puts it into the hands of the public, allowing them to demand better service and transparency in regards to their local EMS provider. This system would be the greatest thing that could happen to both Fire and EMS.
