Conservatives cry foul over Fort Worth policy proposals that are gay-friendly

Full story: www.star-telegram.com

Conservative groups are rallying against proposals aimed at making Fort Worth government policies more inclusive of the gay community. The proposals include extending domestic-partner benefits to gay couples, considering a company’s record on gay and lesbian issues when approving tax breaks, and including gender reassignment surgery in the city health insurance plan. City employees would also receive training on dealing with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Once again, the homophobes prove that it has nothing to do with "marriage" and everything to do with denying any dignity whatsoever to gays and lesbians.

I agree with everything but the gender reassignment surgery in the city health insurance plan. I'd have to look at everything the health insurance covers first before making up my mind about that.

Why is covering a medically recognized condition a problem for you? Even the AMA recommends it (AMA Resolution 122, 2008, pg 1-4): http://www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/16...

San Francisco covers all therapies related to gender identity conditions in the health insurance they offer their employees. They found that they estimated too high a premium cost and dropped it twice already since then. Cost is a non-issue. The only things that might make someone oppose coverage for trans related therapies are honest ignorance or prejudice. I hope I've dispelled the former.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Virgo

If the past few days have been a blur of cooking, washing up and wrapping paper, take a break today and catch up with loved ones. Have a long talk with one of them so you can find out what they've been doing lately, or discuss a topic that concerns both of you. Right now, you're blessed with plenty of diplomacy so the conversation should go well.
