Tale of Two Churches

Full story: spectator.org

Arguably the Episcopal and Methodist Churches have been America's historically most influential. Numerous American elites, including many of the Founders, were and are Episcopalian, making it often the de facto "established" church ... Like other Mainline denominations, Episcopal and Methodist seminaries succumbed to theological liberalism early in the 20th century, reaching radical crescendos in the 1960s, when both churches began numerically to decline, a decline that continues until this day.

"... The Episcopal Church has split, with the new ACNA looking to leadership from Anglican primates (archbishops) in Africa. United Methodism has not split, thanks to leadership from its African members. Episcopal elites and Methodist circuit riders of 200 years ago did not foresee that the spiritual spawn of U.S. missionaries in Africa would play such a role in their own U.S. churches. But they likely would have enjoyed the irony."

I belonged to a growing episcopal church that broke away from the ec over the gay issue. For a long time, I couldn't go to church at all because the split wrecked the church. I had friends on both sides of the issues, all of them remarkable christians whose lives were a profound influence upon me. I felt sickened by what happened. All the time that I was a member there everyone had different opinions on the issue, yet we all respected each other. I have stayed in the episcopal church, but I am troubled by its lack of growth. The growing churches seem to be the more conservative ones. I wish I felt hopeful about the future of the ec, but I do not. I don't know what the answer is; i just wish that churches wouldn't split.

I have left the Episcopal/Anglican Church after 40 years due to their apostasy. I am now exploring both the Roman Catholic and the Eastern Orthodox Churches and leaning towards the Orthodox. The problem is that the closest one is an hour away. However, I have decided that it will be worth it to be part of such a church. -SD

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Virgo

Words are flying around in all directions today, and the conversations will be fast and furious. You might face a lot of distractions and interruptions, or you could get caught up in some rather irritable slanging matches with a certain person. The busier you are, the more fraught you'll become and the more likely to go off the deep end.
