edd:i agree with you to a point.but isn't it up to us as the electorate to hold them accountable to their promises and vote them out if they don't follow through.for example the republicans gained control of congress in 1994 by running on a platform promising term limits.then when they won office they explained that upon further inspection term limits were not a good thing.but did the voters vote them out?no they re-elected them.now can you blame politicians for lying when americans continually don't punish them at the polls.another example americans consistently rank congress as a bunch of lying rats but when asked to rate their own representative they say he's doing a good job,americans want it both ways.if you won't vote them out when they outright lie to you they are not going to stop.the power is in the peoples hands but they won't use it.

why are evolving views a bad thing,do we really want people whos'opinions are set in concrete.how is saving the auto industry and a couple of hundred thousands of jobs tied to it a bad thing.did we want him to let the recession worsen.as for the political system you are free to register with the party of your choice and to attend meetings and express your view and what way you want the party to go.too many people think that election day is the only ingredient in politics.just look at the people who changed the views of both major parties.they were willing to be footsoldiers in their cause,they got out the vote of like minded people,gave money and attended meetings and sounded off.the major problem with our system is not the politicians but the voters who would rathere bitch then participate in the nuts aND bolts of our political system.and yes i'm guilty at times of doing this myself.participation and holding politicians accountable would go a long way to curing what ails us.

When you say you are for Gay marriage in 1996 while running for State Senator, then in 2008 you change to one man, one woman, then in 2012 you say you are for it again, you are not evolving, you are a lying snake that tells people what they wamt to hear if it will benefit your political ass.
