A group of former military and intelligence operatives launched an aggressive campaign against President Obama Wednesday, accusing the president of claiming undue credit for the Usama bin Laden raid and suggesting his administration is behind politically motivated security leaks.

Fox news reported this...They didn't make it did they, or didn't they?..Did they hire these guys to do this so they could report it?

This is where I differ from those closer to my political persuasion, who spout this kind of nonsense....

There probably was a shoot on sight order concerning bin Laden, but no one can convince me an American commander of any rank would take it upon himself to order American troops into a sovereign country by himself...It's crazy!

This would have to come from the President being briefed by the Secretary of Defense.

I do not support Obama, but he ordered it and the mission was accomplished...End of story.. bin Laden is dead, and Obama did his duty on this occasion so it's time to use sensible arguments against him, instead of this crap.

Obama could have surrounded him and give him 24 hours to give up? Wait the President before him already tried that. No he gave the order, and Bin Laden is fish bait now instead of jumping on a donkey and getting away. Great call Mr. President. What you have got there is a bunch of rightwingers, who would not support Obama no matter what. I am sure the left can come with just as many service and intel people to take a differant view.

It's a shame that these simpletons can't understand this. Yes, the seals got him but it happened under Obama's watch, duh LOL! They just don't want him to have any credit at all in fear that it help him win another term.

Don't like the Fox News link -

How about the Reuters story that came out Tuesday (before Fox picked it up)

Special ops group attacks Obama over bin Laden bragging, leaks

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/15/usa...

how about HuPo citing Reuters story

OPSEC, Special Forces Group, Attacks Obama Over Bin Laden Bragging, Leaks

NYTimes
Ex-Officers Attack Obama Over Leaks on Bin Laden Raid

The group is about more than killing bin Laden - it's about leaks and national security. I realized that you served and respect the office of president. These guys also served, or at that's the claim so they should be allowed their opinion also.

Their background page lays out their claims and objections:

A modified "swiftboat" tactic.

I wonder how these guys feel about George W Bush, dressing-up and playing fighter pilot, to announce "Mission Accomplished".

"Admiral Bill McRaven, commander of the raid, said: "At the end of the day, make no mistake about it, it was the president of the United States that shouldered the burden for this operation, that made the hard decisions, that was instrumental in the planning process, because I pitched every plan to him."

I'm not sure which side you are defending here or WHO needs defending:)
Of course, leaks are not to be tolerated no matter where they come from, and the Seals or whoever are entitled to their opinion.. They have earned it.

Doesn't change my original statement one iota..The POTUS is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and he gives the orders...Civilian rule over the military..That's the way it's been for over two hundred years, and I find no fault with it.
I can't believe I'm in the position of defending Obama, but because this is an election year and crap is laid at everyone's door step, I guess in this case I will.
HE gave the order, it was carried out, and it succeeded.. I care not if he was a Republican or a Democrat.
The military doesn't have the option to dispute the President..the electorate does that:)

Now Natalie, he wasn't dressing up..He was a pilot.. He could fly a plane and everything, even though he didn't do it in combat.
Clinton?.. What did he do during Vietnam?.. He didn't even dress up did he?:)

A personal opinion is that by now we should have heard of at least 10 more high ranking terriosts being killed. THAT would impress me.

Yesterday, when introducing President Obama at a campaign event in New Hampshire, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat, said that the president "led the mission that brought Osama bin Laden to justice":

Yes, they really are that stupid.

I was using Bush as an example of a President wearing a military uniform while in office. It was unusual, given that the president is viewed as a civilan and not serving in active duty. Also, he served in the Air National Guard and, as you pointed out, never flew in combat.

Probably the last president to have worn a military uniform while in the White House was Teddy Roosevelt. Dwight Eisenhower, who led millions of soldiers in the invasion of France during WWII, never wore a military uniform as president. He viewed himself as an "ex-general". The president is the civilian "commander and chief", and not part of the military itself.

Sorry if I jumped the gun a little, but this started out like a "GW is idiot rant,", so I decided to do a little damage control right off of the bat:)

Clinton didn't wear any because he was skipping around Europe and draft dodging to the best of his ability... As for Bush's "uniform" look at a picture of him when he gave his "Mission Accomplished" speech... Looks like a FLIGHT SUIT to me, with the PRESIDENTIAL SEAL on it...No rank at all.. OF course if you are the Commander in Chief of the military you wouldn't need one:)

The Commander in chief IS in effect "in the military" considering he is the Commander in Chief of it...Obama is the Commander in Chief of the military according to the Constitution and he gives the final orders, which brings us back to the point of the thread...HE DID kill bin Laden because he had to order the mission to do it.
