I do not believe he should go to jail for first degree murder, That person came on to his property and tried to steal what he probly worked for all his life, For all he knew maybe she had a gun or something. And for that matter it wasnt like he even knew that it was a girl. All he knew was it was his property his stuff. He did what he had to do to protect it. She is in the wrong for even being there. After reading this i think watseka is a bit mixed up on what murder is and what is self defence.

Even though they were robbing him it is not called self defence, he was not threaten with bodily harm, you can not just shot and kill someone even though they were stealing from you. He could have shot gun in air or at their tires so they couldn't get far, but directly shooting and killing one of them is against the law. It's just funny he only got $50,000 bond $5,000 to get out when people with lesser sentences not Murder are setting out here with the same bond---now what's that tell you about are system --F--ked up if you ask me

This is disgusting, the man is out on bail.....He apparently wanted to do harm to someone when he shot directly at the vehicle. He could have shot into the air or at the tires just as the earlier poster said. It's a bad case of being in the wrong spot at the wrong time for the woman apparently. SO sad.....Who cares about your property....its material. What about taking away someone's daughter, mother and sister?

Well you are right i guess i was looking at it another way. He could of just stopped them but you have to admitt they to were in the wrong. And the system in there is screwed up.

whats your is yours,
Do you think the punishment fits the crime? And if for some dumb ass reason you think it does, what gives him the right to be Jugde, jury, and exectutioner? I am going to stop here because she was a friend and my heart maybe interfering with my mind. |
First degree murder? Doesn't that have to be premeditated? Maybe I'm wrong...but sounds more like Manslaughter.
It's such a sad situation all the way around. But, as a mother, sister, daughter myself, that is exactly why I would never put myself in a situation like that. The guy was definitely wrong to shoot how he did, but who can say how you'd react when your scared and your adrenaline is flowing. The silent alarm in his house sounds fishy...why not call 911?? |
Do you think she was thinking like a daughter....mother...sister... when she decided to particpate in robbing a 65 year old man? I'm not saying he handled it the right way. I completely agree that he should be held accountable.but she should have been thinking of the family that loved her. |
What have you worked for all your life that you are willing to kill someone for that you keep in a shed ? Your children your wife ? humm I keep my tools Craftsman & snap on my riding lawn tractor a few of my grandsons toys and my sons 93 mustang lx 5.0 convertible and it is all insured under home owners and an auto policy. She was running away from this place and posed no threat and yet he felt he should try and kill a fleeing thief. Had this been a home invasion i could see the shooting and give praise but not someone stealing my weed wacker. |
Sorry about your friend, sounds to me she was sitting in the truck while her male friend was robbing the place and fled like a coward--even though she should not have been in that situation!! |
All I know is that now there is a family greiving over the loss of their daughter and mother. Should she have been stealing? No....Did she put herself in the situation willingly? Probably. Does her mom and her children deserve to live life now without a mom/daughter? Absolutely not. This man can replace stolen objects. The mother and the children cannot replace this woman. Did she deserve jail time? Sure....but not death.....

WOw this is a sad story. I believe they were both in the wrong. No the guy should have not shot at the truck window, tires maybe or in the air, but i agree silent alarm why not call 911. Thats what i would of done. But she should of never been robbing the old guy, I mean come on she was 31 she had kids to worry about. All i know the people I feel sorry for are the poor children, no mother to grow up with. Sad, Very sad.

The man is 65 years old, it's not like he is a cold blooded murderer. This situation I do believe is unique, but what if it were your grandpa, grandma or an elderly person close to you and this happened to, how would you feel?? You would be the one saying that they had worked hard all their life for what they have and the did not deserve to have it taken away from them. Well let me tell you if it were my grandpa I would be 100% in his corner and so would the rest of you if it were someone close to you, you would find a way to justify, but since this woman had kids we should all feel sorry, well if she cared about her kids then maybe she shouldn't have put herself in that situation |
I dont think my grandparents would be so quick to shootat someone running away from them as Mr. Brown did he didnt know if anything was missing from his shed and how fast do you think he was out there with the alarm going off . Did they have enough time to steal anything ? I will ask again what is so importaint that you are willing to shoot someone for that you keep in a shed your lawn tractor , weed wacker, or your million dollar coin collection . if you keep the coins in your shed well they arnt worth a million bucks. Maybe she didnt know what her friend was up to and just got caught up in it all , or was she trying to feed her kids i dont know I wish she had been here doing it I would have called the cops knowing the responcetime could be 15 minutes or more but she would be alive and my home owners insurance would be buying me what ever was taken. |
Like i said i still believe they are both in the wrong..I never once said i felt sorry for her,, or said anyone should all i said is i feel sorry for thoses kids. Its not there fault. And no she wasnt a responsible mother to be out and stealing. And the old guy probably was scared. But thats just my opinion

All i want to say is two wrongs dont make a right. She should of got to know this person she was with a little more. Also he could not have been that good of a friend to just leave her there. But as they say it will get to him sooner or later and if he is any kind of man he will turn himself in. (MAYBE) I do feel for her kids. But i highly doubt that she was trying to feed them. There is to much out there she could of found another way to do that.

I love listening to city folk go on about calling 9-1-1 and how property can be replaced... when they know nothing of rural life. Call the Iroquois County Sheriff and ask him what the average response time is to a burglary call - or ANY 9-1-1 call - in rural Beaverville. Ask a farmer how many times he can afford to have the tools of his livelyhood stolen. The male burglar is the one who should be charged with 1st degree murder. He's the one who put her in that situation IN THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY. The shooter shouldn't get ANY jail time but it's an election year... so God help him.

Im glad you said that you are the first one who came on here like they had any sence. You are so right about this one. Why hasnt he been caught yet. Response time i guess. |

I also live in a very rural area that abounds with drugs. Believe me, my guns are loaded and ready for anyone trying to break into my house or shed !!! We've put the word out to all, it doesn't matter who you are - WE WILL SHOOT !!!
If any of you knew the area Mr. Brown lives in, AS I DO, you might feel differently about "shooting in the air, or at the tires". The area is VERY RURAL, neighbors about 1 mile away, north of their farm a few miles is an area that is known for drugs, prostitution etc. It's a long way from any kind of law enforcement. I would do the same thing Jim did in given the same circumstances. In fact, I've shot in the direction of my own son-in-law just for sneaking in the back way to pick "shrooms". A 410 shotgun at 600 ft istn't gonna hurt - but it put the fear of God into him. Told 'em later, if the trespassers didn't get the message with that, I had a 22 rifle I could pick their toenails with !!! Haven't been back since either!! I just don't understand why some people think, they shouldn't suffer the consequences, when they try to STEAL what someone has sweated and busted their rear to aquire. If you are HUNGRY, ask me & I'll help. If you are BROKE. ask I'll probably loan ya 20 bucks But don't STEAL from me or LIE to me |

I think some of you people need to put yourself in this gentlemans shoes!! What would you have done if it was your house or your property? The same thing!!
